I upgraded a NT4 server with W2K advanced server and it installed active dir which has sloooooowed down all computers on the network by 50% is there a way to uninstall AD without having a major problem witrh the network?
 
You definately don't want AD!! You should be able to use the "Configure Your Server" tool to uninstall AD.

Beware: AD replaces the normal authentication (SAM) from NT, so you may have major issues with logging back in again. Make sure you have a backup of your data before you do it. Check Technet for issues and information before you do it.

ALL YOUR USER INFORMATION WILL BE ERASED if you uninstall Active Directory. Your network will slow down if all the computers on your network (clients) are NT4, especially, if they logon to WIN2K with roaming profiles. if you are gonna move to win2k server then i suggest you migrate to win2k pro for your client computers--the network speed wiil increase. you probably are gonna have to install WINS on your win2k advance server and then tell your client computers on the network where the WINS server is. that should speed things up when doing name resolution.
 
It occurs to me: Was the server a Domain Controller in NT4? That might explain why it installed AD on you. If that was the case, you probably will need to fall back to NT4 (restore from tape) until you figure out if you want to go AD.
