I just set up an Active Directory domain and have a question. The server is Windows Server 2003 Enterprise, and all the clients are Windows XP
Is there any way to transfer all of the settings from the WORKGROUP account to the DOMAIN account? For example, before the domain, everything was WORKGROUPs. So I had the accound KraziKid@WORKGROUP. Can I take all the settings, desktop and everything from KraziKid@WORKGROUP and transfer it to KraziKid@DOMAIN? I already tried copying the folder from Documents and Settings, but that didn't work.

EDIT: One more question. I just installed the adminpak.msi file to my Windows XP Pro Client. When I go to manage the Actice Directory, everything is fine. Then when I go to change the properties of a user, the Dial-Up tab is missing. Do you know why? I need this tab so I can control remote access through the VPN. I also tried importing the dsa.msc file from the Windows Server 2003 box, and executing it on the Windows XP box, and it was still missing the Dial-Up tab. Is there a setting I am missing somewhere?

The answer to your question is yes. First of all, though, your original account was not KraziKid@WORKGROUP. It was KraziKid@COMPUTERNAME. But thats besides the point.

When you right click on my computer and go to properties, go the advanced tab. The second settings button should be for user profiles. You'll want to highlight your old account, and click copy to. Browse to the new account, and make sure you give the new user permission to view it.

You will probably have to do this with a third account. Meaning, don't use the local KraziKid account, and dont use the domain KraziKid account, but you could use the local administrator account to copy the profile.

Thank you, I will try this in a few minutes. My mistake with the KraziKid@WORKGROUP, I was typing my question fast because I needed to run out of the door to do something. I will report back to see if it worked.

EDIT: I just tried to do what you told me using the local Administrator acount, and the Copy To button is blanked out (inactive). What should I do?

EDIT2: I got it. It turned out I had a service running under the name KraziKid@COMPUTERNAME. Once I killed the service, I was able to copy the user profile. The only thing that gave me a problem after that was telling Outlook to use the new pst file. Thanks again.
