Active Cooling for the 7950GT

Is it possible to switch out the heatsink of the 7950GT with a fan instead and if possible where can i get a VGA cooler fan that's compatible with the 7950?

I've went on newegg but the ones I've seen so far look like they're for the newer cards which are really big.

Alternatively, what are good methods to cool down the card when it's under stress? it worked for my friend cause he has this portable fan which he just points right at the thing, but I don't have that.
 
Depending on the design of the existing passive heatsink it might be easy for you to just attach a case fan (80, 92 or 120mm) to the heatsink - either with cable ties or self-taping (pointy ended) screws of appropriate length/thickness to grip between heatsink fins. Compared to most graphics card coolers, case fans are quieter for a given level of air flow.

e.g. 8600GTS Passive, with fan attached with cable ties
 
Just take a couple of 80mms and slap them on top of the passive heatsink, and voila. If you're really in the mood, get a high rpm fan and connect it to a fan controller, so you can pump it up when its stressed.
 
I agree with jury-rigging a fan on the existing cooler.

Otherwise, grab a Zalman vf-700 (around $20).
 
Yep. The best coolers are the ones designed to be passive, but with a big honkin fan on it anyways. I have two 92mm high speed antec's on my Accelero S1 😀
