Just kids being kids? Like kids that go into schools and shoot up their teachers? Kids who go around raping other kids? Kids are not kids anymore. What you and your friends did ( I believe you had a hand in it) could be classified as an act of terrorism by many people. And believe me, if I was the owner of that house I would beat the living shit out of you and your friends.

If their just blowing it up for the hell of it, with no one around it shouldn't be... if they're going to wire it to blow with intent to hurt someone sure thats an act of terrorism.

It's not terrorism unless they have a motive with the intent of making you submit to their demands by threatening or harming you. Otherwise it's just vandalism.

It seems OP is fighting tooth and nail for the right to blow up mailboxes and not be called a terrorist...

Sure... their intent was to terrorize the newspaper delivery person.

They did it at like 11PM or around there. No newspaper deliveries around that time.

It's all about perception. It could be perceived as a threat. Imagine being a newspaper delivery person and wondering if one of those little boxes is going to blow up with your hand half way in as you stuff the Sunday paper inside.

So if I walk up behind a newspaper man and yell "booga booga!" really loud at random houses and scare (a.k.a. terrify) him, I am committing an act of terrorism. Correct?

say you planted the bomb and a bike rider passes...

Should they have been arrested & charged with a serious crime? Certainly, because their action could very likely have resulted in an innocent person being badly injured plus it involved destruction of federal property.

Terrorism though? Thats just plain stupid.

They just blew it up for fun. They didn't who lived there.

And where did I put that Jump to Conclusions mat for all you idiots saying I had a hand in this? I heard about it the morning after it happened.

They weren't arrested but the cops did have a nice long talk with them at the house they were staying at.

They did it in a subdivision where all the houses are spread apart (not like in a city where all the houses are less than 20ft from each other) in a rural area. There was no danger of anyone being hurt because nobody was around besides them.

There was a time when you were punished for the act, not the idea of, the crime you committed. You blow up a metal box in front of someone's house, but you're punished for terrorizing the community and the percieved idea of the crime makes you equal to a crazy nut in a cabin somewhere piecing together mailbombs, rather than the juvenile deliquent that you are.

The term "terrorism" covers more than just the Jihad variety. They "terrorized" the neighborhood.

They're not going to gitmo.

They weren't arrested? Were they charged with anything? If they weren't charged with anything, then why are you/they getting your panties in a wad over what the officers called it?

Damn it, OP...get the facts straight. If they weren't arrested, they weren't charged with an act of terrorism.

The people can still press charges against them if they weren't arrested.

I never said they were charged with anything, I said thats what the cops and city officials are calling it.

Terrorism!

Maybe the mailbox thing was not terrorism, but more like multiple counts of wreckless endangerment and violent destruction of property.

Man... Thats how they handled it when I was a kid. Me and some friends put a cherry bomb in one guys mailbox. He caught us and drug us home by our collars and watched as our parents beat the crap out of us. But damn, no one was arrested for freaking "terrorist activity".
