https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp

Per law, you can get one free report each year! Easy to do on this website, no charges, no hassles, no catches like that freecreditreport.com website where you have to sign up for some credit monitoring scam. This is website is the official website sponsered by the big three credit reporting companies.

Do it now before 2006 is over!

This is a commonly used website been out for a long time now. Its legit......

NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH FREECREDITREPORT.COM
They are a complete ripoff and require you to get memberships and purchase crap.

I would hesitate to enter the requested personal information. Their OWN Verisign registration is expired. They also warn on this website about giving personal information to a 3Rd party company when requesting a credit report. They ARE a 3rd party company so I guess you have been warned.

Is there some place specific where you confirmed this? When I clicked on 'Verify' on the front page, I get...

Ive been using it since the free annual reports came around.

No problems so far. Am confident its legit.

For the record: You are entitled to one free report from EACH agency, each year. Meaning you actually are entitled to three free reports a year: one from Experian, one from Equifax and one from Transunion. I usually order my report once every 4 months, that way, they keep resetting and I keep an eye on my report for free!

One other note of clarification, credit reports are not the same as credit scores! Credit reports are free once a year, but checking your credit score will cost a few bucks (it was 6.95 last time I checked).

I dont know how much people trust freecreditreport. com ...you can sign up for a 30 day trial and see your score.

I am trying it right now, infact just saw my score for the first time today.

Here's a headsup for anyone who wants to try it....you sign up online...and they mail you a confirmation code by snail mail..might take up to 10 days.
So keep track of the 30-day deadline if you want to cancel, coz they dont email you when you sign-up...its easy to forget about it!

Other than that, I really havent had any problem with it.

Will let y'all know how it ends when I cancel it

Normally a credit score costs about $15, and ones for <$10 are usually the just the proprietary non-fico scores.

There is no "2006 deadline" of any sort.

You're entitled to one from each of the 3 agencies every 12 months. In other words, it's not per calendar year. So there's no need to rush, and no need to get all 3 right now. I echo compudork's suggestion to get a report from a different agency every 4 months instead.

DanT

glad you cleared that up...I wasnt sure if it was once per year, or every 12 months...was thinking of getting the other reports before the end of 2006..

Thanks!

DONT CONFUSE THE TWO!!!!!! ANNUALCREDITREPORT.COM WITH FREECREDITREPORT.COM

ACRP is 100% legit and requires no trial periods and they will not spam the ****** out of you in the future like FCRP.

In addition, I believe there are a couple of states where you are allowed to receive your credit report, free, twice per year. This has to be requested from the agencies themself though; Experian, Transunion, Equifax.

*edit*

You also get it free, if you ever have been turned down for credit. This request has to be postmarked within 60 days of the denial of credit.

*edit*

Another trick to get a free report is to Dispute something on your credit file. By law the CRA's have to investigate and send the consumer a new report after they've investigated the dispute. 🙂

Free credit report. com charged my credit card when i signed up for their 'free 30 day trial' about a year ago

They're talking about a different website.

Thanks for the post & the reminder to check your credir report.

This free service is well worth your time...

It may save you a ton of money & save you from trouble by insuring the info in it is correct...

The safest way to keep from getting screwed is to always start here:
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/credit/freereports.htm

Since supposedly no scammers could ever be issued a .gov address I think it makes it quite safe.

I too request one report from each agency every 4 months or so. It works very well and is really quite easy.

I am proud to say my reports are always clean, never a late bill ever. Tough as he11 sometimes when times were lean, but something that has always been really important to me.

Here's something else I discovered. If you have a Providian Visa card, you can get your FICO score for free. Once you log in, it's under Credit Profile. And this is your actual FICO score, not one of the "credit scores" provided/estimated by other organizations. Providian was bought by Washington Mutual (or at least my card was) so this may be a WAMU thing.
