Acrylic case

not bad at all. i recommend the logisys blue uv senstive acrylic one at newegg. it looks pretty sweet. 🙂
 
The only uses for that type of case is for a store or show display. The material is a poor choice for a work-a-day machine.

as long as it has adequate air flow from fans, the radiant heat kept int eh case by that case compared to the exact same one made of aluminum would be quite minimal.
 
Looks immature,

Getting the case to look neat is going to frastruate u...well it will me...and u might need to spend a little more money if you want to make it look nice.

Thats why human wear clothes, to hide the imperfections and ugliness ... not coz of protection 😉

I was looking at getting an acrylic case myself(Beantech BT85). The only thing I was worried about was heat.
Is there anything else that people buying an acrylic case should know?
I am very meticulous when it comes to wiring, so I do not worry about that.
It seems the consensus here is they are bad.

Acrylic cases are 100% gimik. Scratches and scuffs will show up on it like they have a spot light on them. Now, if you wanted to put a fish bowl into the computer, such as on top, it might be a decent option. Then again, you'll need to install some heat insulation material or you'll have fish soup instead of fish.

Personally, my case sits under my desk, so I don't see all of it. I see enough to know it's there, looks good (it makes black look gooood) and is running properly. I'd also like a case that I don't have to worry about cracking the area around the screws if I tighten them a bit too much. That can happen with acrylic, which will make it look like crap and be less stable/reliable.
 
If you like the case then get it. Most of the people here are people that like plain looking boxy cases which have designs from the mid 90's. I myself personally wouldnt get acrylic due to heat not being dispersed well but if you like it and can get the wiring looking nice then by all means get it.
 
I myself have an Acrylic case, no problems with cooling... since I have 5 fans blowing and sucking hot air out. I got it for cheap so no complaints here, not to mention it looks cool! 😛

 
im getting an acrylic case, the Logisys one anand did a review on here ill be cooling with water so i dont know about the heat output from an acrylic, but if you like it get it.

all the negativity on this thread freeked me out about acrylic. This is my first build, so I didn't want any trouble. I also could find NO reviews about these cases, so I opted for safe.
If the mood hits me later, I can always spend the $100 on an acrylic.


BTW: I know acrylic has some other weaknesses as well that steal/aluminum doesn't. If sun hits it, it will act like a greenhouse and temps will skyrocket. And acrylic breaks down (fades/discolors/disintigrates)really fast when exposed to UV (sun). But it is cool!
If it does scratch, it is possible to buff it out. Most glass shops can do this. An easy way you can do yourself on small scratches is to lightly spread spray-on furniture polish with a soft rag. Don't rub - just kind of lay it on.

To me, that case looks like crap. I wouldn't put my name on a build that used that case in a million years.

I think it's ok of you don't like the way the case looks, but your post is very derogatory which reflects directly on you and your opinion.:thumbsdown:

The case in question is a Chenbro 611 which happens to be a first rate case. Coolcases.com uses lots of Chenbro's and speak very highly of them.

Lighten up.

Actually acrylic fares quite well in UV environments, at least compared to other plastics, do you ever wonder why all computers from the 80's are made out of that ugly yellow color? It's not because they were that color back in the 80's (well okay some were) it's because the cheap polystyrene or ABS they use in cases will yellow pretty quickly if some sunlight hits it. What do you think the huge signs outside of gas stations or on the front of Wal-Mart are made out of? If you guessed acrylic you'd be right, they last for a long time in direct sunlight without any problems.

I'd stay away from acrylic cases because I think they look bad, which really isn't a reason to not buy one, and because there's really no way to discharge static electricity into an acrylic case, in fact the acrylic case will probabally charge itself up as soon as you turn on the computer and the fans start rotating sending slight vibrations into the case, the bottom of the case will then rub on whatever surface it's sitting on and you'll get a static build up. Unless you line the case with some ESD material I'd stay far far away from acrylic cases.
