My install of Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0 crashes firefox, internet explorer, and itself. In fact, it will not open, even if i try to open it as a program - it never gets beyond the white loading screen (where loading text should appear at the bottom, there is only nothing). I've reinstalled it multiple times. Does anyone have any suggestions or know where i can download acrobat reader 5.05 for windows.

Thanks a lot guys

at what point does it crash ? As soon as you execute the installer file or after it installs ok, but only when you try to run it ?

I think it sounds like you have a bad rogue acrobat file in there somewhere that's incompatible with the new one you're installing. Did you run any kind of registry checker (like Norton Windoctor) to see if extraneous keys have been left in there that you no longer need ?

That would be my first course of action... uninstall again, run a registry cleaner and clear out the crap, then reboot and reinstall.

Another option (and really as a last resort) is to run acrobat speedup after a successful acrobat install if you can get that far... and turn off practically every feature except the core stuff. This may help you determine exactly which component is screwing with you.

It crashes after I install, when I try to load the program. Generally with all adobe programs, you enter a white loading screen/box where it tells you what files are being loaded (and lists all the developers). Acrobat stalls out here. Thanks for the tip, I will probably tweak the registry later today... Gotta take some finals first.

On a sidenote, I tried replacing Acrobat Rdr 6.0 with Acrobat Rdr 5.05, only to find that the older version of acrobat will not open any files I need to open with Acrobat Reader. Sigh...
