ACQ (Another Car Question)

My 1995 Ford Escort Wagon with 111,000 miles recently started having trouble accelerating. It seems as if its not getting enough fuel. Now, it's not bad yet, but something i need to take care of in the next month or so. I also notice this problem when accelerating up hills.

Fuel Pump maybe?

In january, i had all hoses, belts, and filters (including fuel filter) replaced. Clutch was replaced around 60k.

Suggestions?

Is it sputtering, smoking or making any kind of noise? Or is it just a lack of power?

No smoking, no noise. Car kind of shakes a little when going from first to second or when trying to climb a steep hill if i am pressing on the gas pedal heavily (not floored). If i back off a little on the pedal, it does better.

There's 101 sensors/sending units, computer(s), module(s), relays and possibly corroded connections that could be malfunctioning. If it were my car I'd make an appointment to have it put on a scope. As much as I'd prefer to do it myself, sometimes it's just out of your hands. More often than not these days, thanks to... uh, don't get me started! :frown:

If I remember correctly, up until 1996, Ford used the EEC-IV electronics for all their vehicles. I am sure on the net there is a guide on how to read the codes( a paperclip used as a jumper and an analog voltmeter are the tool you will need). I can`t remember the location of the jumper on the harness or which pins to use for the volt meter.

The code the meter puts out(blips on the meter) will correspond to the trouble code. a code 11 used to mean everything is ok.

I'd have to guess fuel pump, or low compression on one or more cylinders. Or maybe fouled spark plugs. Can you pull out the plugs and see what condition they are in?

It would be cheaper and easier to change the fuel filter. If that doesnt fix it, I'd most likely think fuel pump.:)

it could also be your fuel injectors. Try running some cleaner through it and see what that does
