ive recently been getting a lot of bsod's in my win2k box (basically, everytime i load up the computer, a bsod prevents me from getting into windows), and they have always been related to something like the acpi not being windows compliant (its the same message each time, actually). i just started getting this message, and i flashed my bios to the latest version after it happened, so i think the acpi is windows compliant.

anyways, my question is: in the bios setup, there are two options under "power management setup" (running awardBIOS on an epox 8k7a) that refer to acpi - the first is ACPI function (enabled/disable), that i assume i would want enabled. the second is called ACPI suspend type (S1(POS)/S3(STR)). now, what is the difference between these two, which should i have selected (the s1(pos) is currently selected), and would this have any change on the errors im getting?

thanks, wfbberzerker

S1 =suspend normally,HD ,video all power down into sleep mode, power supply & cpu fan still on.
S3= Suspend to ram, everything is turned off exept a small amout of voltage goes to the ram & keep your currents settings.

S1 usualy works fine to go into low power mode, most boards have trouble waking up from S3 but it's a nice feature to have if it works.:)

hmm... i think i figured it out.

i was messin around with some options in my bios, and i decided to do a normal bootup (as opposed to quick, where certain tests are bypassed). when i booted up, it ran a memory test, and my memory failed! so ill go rma my ram and see if that fixes it (funny, this is second time its happened - with crucial)

thanks for the response, budman
