i have a old 93 grand am i been trying to sale. Well this lady pulled out of the church parking lot and hit it!

there is a dent (about the size of a fist) and the trim work is now loose. grr

there are a lot of other small dents so not sure if i should turn it in. she did give me her insurance papers etc.

darnit i don't know what to do. with a big dent it is harder to sale. but it already has a lot of dents and flakeing paint.

sigh.

be a good person or screw her and report it.

This has nothing to do with being "good" and "screwing" her. She hit your car, and you have a right to report it and get it fixed.

true.

the car has a few smaller dents. seems mean/rude/rotten etc to turn it in. she was honest and came in and told me she hit it. granted the parking lot was full of other church people.

i really do not know what to do. on one hand she did hit the car and i want to sale it anyway. on the ohter hand a big dent is going to make it harder to sale.

Get an estimate, pocket the insurance money, and dump the car with the dent for cheaper.

sigh.

the dent is the size of a fist and it knocked the plastic loose.

hey, if you're lucky, your insurance company will just go, "hmm, ok, we've got a little fender-bender here... should be no problem... uh-oh, wait a minute, it's a pontiac grand am. better just total that sh!t!" and you'll get to walk with a check, which is what you wanted in the first place. :)

dude, she took blame and won't be angry at you for reporting it. you have the right. do it. it could knock of as much as $500 of the price you could sell it for. maybe just painting it would help? pics would help.

As others have said. Get the insurance check (don;t fix it) and just lower the price by $100 or so. You will end up with more money then you first were asking and someone gets a cheaper car.

Yeah... you would think that the insurance folks would just total it rather than fix it. The Blue Book value on that car in it's condition is only $1,000.

If you learned anything from this experience it's that you should never park on the street! I'll never understand this. What other expensive possessions would people leave in the road?

You're lucky you found out she hit you. Most of the time you'll find your damaged car, and the person who hit it long gone.

Haha... $500, $700, close enough.

Possible solution: go to the guy who offered you $700 and see how much he'll pay for it in its current condition. Offer the church lady two options - pay the difference (i.e. if he'll give you $500 she pays $200) or pay to fix it.

I leave my house next to the road all the time, so far no one has damaged it or tried to steal it.

Seriously, you can't understand why people park on the street?
