Yeah, just got my leadtek 6600gt AGP card today! woot! works great!

but on 3dmark 03 i got like...4700 points!!! wtf??? on 3dmark05 i got a little under 3000!!!

what is up with this?

my specs

2.8ghz P4 HT
512 pc2700 ram
6600GT agp

yeah...obviously the P4 isn't amazing...and the ram is kinda bad...but how do i get normal scores on 05 and low on 03???

i'm not sure if that's a normal score

on my
xp3200
9800pr0 450/370
1gb pc3200
i got 6500 in 03 and 2600 in 05

uhhh a P4's performance is probably being seriously crimped because of the lower memory bandwidth of the PC2700

well i dont understand how i can get a normal score for a 6600GT on 05, but a really below average score on a much less intense benchmark, 03.

i just used the drivers that came with the card....im assuming they arent very good, maybe the 66.93 or something like that? i havent checked.

either way, it does about as good as it should in games, but just that 3dmark03....hmmmm.....

bump

yeah i'm using the 66.93 drivers that came with the card (leadtek) could that be it?

would 1gb of pc3200 ram help my scores?

and i just did another 3dmark05 test....I OCed the card to 555/1005...so now i have 2800 points...still have like <5000 on 3dmark03

please help

...well, i just put it back to stock speeds (500/900) because my mom said the computer randomly shut off when she was on the internet...so i figured my PSU was stressed...
i only have a 300watt, but its a decent one, otherwise i doubt i would be running 3dmark05 and getting 2800 points and playing games for 2 hours straight (doom3 and hl2)

What FSB are you using? The pentium 4 2.8 comes in 533 qand 800 Mhz versions. The P4 is more effected by the FSB speed than the Athlon64, so in a more cpu intensive test like 3DMark03, you will be effected by lower a lower FSB. Getting new RAM won't help if your cpu doesn;t support higher FSB speeds, so you need to specifiy which version of cpu you have.

First thing you should try out is the latest drivers, though. You can get 71.XX versions from www.guru3d.com.

...i said its a 2.8ghz P4 HT...hyper threading...that means 800mhz fsb

and ill install the 71.90 drivers tonight...are the 75.90 worth getting?

i have a P4 2.4c with a 6800gt and i used the 66.93 and currently 67.66. i tried a couple of the 71 drivers but my heat shot up like 5-8c with no real world gain that i could see so i went back to the 67.66.
i don't understand how you could be getting such a low '03 and a normal '05. did i miss it or did you give the cpu score in the '03 detail part? mine is around 750 when i oc to 2.8.

Are you using one stick of RAM or Dual-channel RAM? I heard running single channel on a Pentium 4 could severely affect performance.

if it helps, I got 3300 3dmarks 05 with 1024 mb DDR333 ram on single channel

Athlon 64 3400+ (s754, duh...) clawhammer core
NF3 mobo (with no DDR400)
2x512mb of DDR333 ram (single channel, duh...)
BFG GeForce 6600GT AGP8x (copper one) driver: 67.66
400W antec truepower PSU
160Gb 7200RPM 8mb buffer ultraDMA hard drive
another 120Gb one

nothing overclocked except factory overclock on my vid card

my 9800xt
p4@3.31ghz
1 gb PC 3500
gets 6,600 in '03 and 2950 in '05

3DMarK03 and 05 tend to test the videocard more than anything else . . . . the 6600GT is just a "little" faster than the 9800xt

the OP's scores are a little "low" . . . is your install of the 6600gt 'fresh' or did you have another brand of videocard before?

OK, i updated my drivers to the 71.90 beta. No heat or other problems...and it fixed it! Sweet!

now getting 7500 in 03 and 3100 in 05
