Acetaminophen needs a much stronger label. Ibuprofin can be taken in large doses (occassionally) without much risk. Acetaminophen can't. Few people realise that difference.

Acetaminophen's effective dosage is right near its fatal dosage. Dropping the level allowed could theoretically save lives. But, it'll make it almost completely ineffective for most people. Acetaminophen already doesn't work for most women, and the lower dosage will make it ineffective for many men. The likely result would be a switch to some other drug or people routinely taking additional Acetaminophen pills. That puts them in the habit of overdosing on the worst over the counter drug to overdose. Thus, I say make a clear label warning, but NOT a dosage change.

meh .. ibuprofen FTW. it's the only one that works for me.

so kill the kidney instead of the liver. got it

a couple of ibuprofen when i get a nasty headache every couple of months isn't going to kill my kidneys. it's not like i'm poppin' the things like candy.

neither acetominophen nor naproxen sodium works for me. not sure why, but it doesn't. ibuprofen works great. even in low doses.

The only time I take acetaminophen is to supplement my naproxen or because it's in a cold med. It's helpful with fevers for me, but worthless as a pain med in the recommended dose.

Currently on naproxen. Was told to take 2 dose a day for 2 days and as needed after that. I think I am stopping it today (have taken 5 dose) since it is not as painful anymore.

I only take 500mg of acetaminophen when I do need to take it.

What's the average dose people take?

I take 1 500mg tylenol or 2 325mg tylenol every 4-6 hours or 1 200mg Ibuprofen for pain.

In movies and tv shows I always see people dump a random handful into their mouths - maybe that's where idiots are getting fucked up.

It's nice that 200mg of ibuprofen does something for you, if I'm at a point where taking something feels necessary, it's 800mg or there's no point.
Tylenol does nothing for me.

I have a HUGE bottle of never ending 800mg ibuprofen's but holy hell does that shit rip my stomach apart, I can't take it.

Aleve is the only thing that I can take that's non-prescription that dulls my chronic back pain (from a past accident) but even that I do my best to avoid taking for fear of it cause some kind of damage to something in my body.

I avoid painkillers as much as possible. Pain's a part of life, and living pain free is unrealistic.

QFT

I rarely take medicine, with the exception of prescribed medicine by a Dr. If it's not prescribed by a Dr, I try to just deal with it.

i always thought that number was kind of overinflated....

im not saying this is a good thing by any means, it's a terrible thing, but when i was younger it was pretty normal for me to take anywhere from 10-20 hydrocodone 10/500 (500mg acetominephine) a day..everyday... and my liver survived it now i did have some nasty gastrointestinal side effects, but i always thought it was just opiate withdrawal, maybe part of it was from the tylenol...

either way, yeah 4 grams is alot of tylenol any way you look at it...

maybe this will be benificial to people in real pain, maybe they'll make some new formulations of hydrocodone/apap with less apap per pill.. right now the lowest is Norco, which has 5, 7.5, or 10mg of hydrocodone, and 325mg of apap.

True... I just think people expect too much out of life. Feeling down? take a pill. Back hurts a little? take this. A little pudgy? try these pills...

You have obviously never had to sleep in your living room because your back went out and you couldn't move. Trust me, there is a world of difference between, "oh, my back's a little stiff", and, "holy sh*t, I can't move!"

Funny how you chose damn near the lethal dosage of acetaminophen to claim you took. "In adults, single doses above 10 grams or 200 mg/kg of bodyweight, whichever is lower, have a reasonable likelihood of causing toxicity."

10 grams acetaminophen every day? Did you get a liver transplant?

I think they have a point about acetaminophen is in a whole ton of products and dummies don't pay attention to what they're taking and may take other tylenol pills with say an over the counter liquid cold remedy (which already has tons of acetaminophen in it).

nah my liver is fine as far as i know... i did get some yellowing of the skin and eyes at one point when i was at my worst, but it cleared up when i stopped all that crap...

and nah im not stretching the truth at all, i really did take that many pills, my tolerance was THROUGH THE ROOF.

i started out on hydrocodone, and eventually went to oycodone, hydromorpone, or morphine, really whatever opoid i could get my hands on... wrecked everything, finally got on methadone maintainence treatment, stabilized at 110mg of methadone a day (methadone is 4 times the potency of morphine mg per mg, so that was equivelent to 440mg of morphine daily) over about a year i tapered down to 30mg and switched to suboxone, i took it for about a month and quit.... been clean for about 10 months... a few slip ups, but no more dependency

done it a few times....

most of the time i would be on the go, and wouldn't have the time or place to be crushing pills and doing cwe..so i would just eat them..

i always felt like i was losing some of the hydro too everytime i did cwe, i would filter with a coffee filter and end up with a blueish clear liquid (from the blue lortab 10/500's) i was just a fiend and felt like i was surely losing SOME of the hydrocodone that wouldn't get dissolved...kind of like if you've ever done oxy or morph IV, you could get a second shot out of the "bones" that were left in the spoon.. so obviously it wasn't all getting dissolved...

This is not really new.

I remember these warnings; they convinced me to stop using Tylenol many years ago.

pot for everyone! 🙂

me think the government should just give the pharma cartel the exclusive rights to pot. Then the pharmas will start selling it. It is a lot safer than the other crap pharmas have to cook up.

I'm surprised I'm not dead. I always take 4 extra strength Tylenol when I have a headache or something. I think that's 2000mg, and I sometimes took NyQuil which also has acetaminophen. so I have probably taken more than 10,000mg in a day before.

The alcohol must be flushing the bad stuff out of my liver.
