I am considering purchasing a Acer Aspire AS5920-6750. The price is pretty decent and on paper it is quite attractive. I am having trouble finding any kind of review about this thing, anyone know anything about this model or Acer in general?

t7500 only has 2MB cache (t/p8000 series has 3mb and 9000 series has 6mb) not that the speed isn't enough. Merom, 800mhz fsb, 65nm, 35w. 8000 series are Penryn (newer, faster tech), 1066mhz fsb, 45nm and p series are 25w for better battery life.
integrated graphics
low res 1280x800
average weight
Seriously, you could hold out for a $500-$600 core 2 laptop that will be nearly the same. Or splurge a little more for either the 30% off $1349 Dell or the $500 off $1399 HP deal right now for a fully loaded laptop.

I find most Acer notebooks mediocre simply because they only offer AMD processors, and in the laptop world, AMD is mediocre in my view.

My wife and college-daughter each have an Acer of different models both with AMD procs and both purchased at BestBuy less than a year ago. So far they've been great. They're not power-users mostly they do online chat\webcam and surfing. We've had no problems so far so I don't know if their tech support is good or bad. Anything in particular you want to know about?

Personally, I would sacrifice some features (less HD space, no built-in webcam, no multimedia keys, etc. -- or even an altogether different brand) to get an Intel-based comp because it does not have to be compatible with anything it's what others are trying to be compatible to. That's why my wife and daughter have all the bells and whistles on their AMD-based Acers while I have Dell's lowest-end laptop the plain vanilla Dell 1525. :)

I didn't do price comparison on the model you're looking at but I think those are great specs (4 gigs RAM! 320 gigs HD! HDD) at a good price.

Where are you getting that $500 off $1399 HP deal at? I'm really interested in that.

NB0915 (applied when you enter credit card info) good for 2700 uses so I'm guessing another day or so and it'll be gone.
I configed a totally decked out laptop for only $950 shipped and 5% cashback via fatwallet so ends up being around $900.
But seriously, if you are not a power user at all, even the most basic laptops today are good enough. So go for any $400-$500 weekly deals at the stores (best buy, office depot, circuit city, etc)
Probably best deal I saw was a Toshiba mainstream with a core 2, 250gb hd and all decent hardware for $600 after rebate. And if you don't care for brand, just google for the Dell deals as they will usually have them at around that price. HP also seems to have these monthly deals with the lower end deal netting a $650 laptop before taxes.

So something like this deal would be good if all you need is a laptop that can handle basic apps.

Edit: I forgot that I could just post a link that has these regular deals like gotapex.com or just google dell coupon
