Wondering if this is a half-decent monitor and if anyone has this model?
Are you pleased with it's picture quality? Defects, ect.

"Fast response: The 5-millisecond response means that this monitor can keep up with intense gaming and fast-moving video."
Does anyone see a large difference between, say, 2ms and 5ms? Or is this a marketing statement with a firm backbone upon 8ms 3 year old LCDs which are no longer are sold?

I have an Acer 22" monitor, not that model, but a 5ms/300nit/1000:1 contrast version. You can't go wrong for that price. I paid $300 about 9 months ago and am happy with the purchase, the monitor you linked looks to be identical to improved. I don't notice any ghosting with my monitor, but I never saw any with my old 8ms either, so I don't know if I'm just not sensitive to it or it's just not there. Anyway, for $170 I doubt you'll find a better monitor.

*edit - I also got mine at Circuit City with a $50 rebate, I got the rebate without a problem. I think it took about 6 weeks. So, I'd buy it and be fairly confident you won't have any issues with the rebate, atleast that was my experience with Circuit City.

I bought the AL2216 several months ago and love it. My wife wanted one and I picked up the X223 a few hours ago. Will let you know how well it works...this new one is supposed to have a 2500:1 contrast ratio vs the AL2216 1000:1. It just has to be worth $169.99 and CC already confirmed my online rebate. I just have to send in the paperwork.

Please do that. Let me know if you have any dead pixels and how you like the interface.

Just an fyi, my monitor has a single stuck pixel. During dark colors/blacks it shows blue. It's not that noticable, it really doens't bother me, but I do have that one pixel that is stuck. One out of 1.7 million isn't so bad I guess.

I've also been considering an Acer Widescreen LCD. The one I found on newegg is here:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16824009094

but it looks like yours is a better monitor for a better price. I'm a little worried about the high native resolution on both monitors though. I have a Geforce 6800 Ultra, and most games I still run on 1024 or 1280 resolutions on my 19" 4:3 CRT to get a decent framerate. I really don't think I can push my system to 1680x1050. I've heard mixed results about how much picture quality is degraded by running at resolutions less than the native resolution. If you choose the 1:1 option, are the black bars overly obtrusive? If you stretch it, is the pixel blurring bad enough that I should stick with my CRT? I'd really like the extra screen size and lighter frame, and I do primarily have work and other uses in mind, but I want to know if I'm going to be taking a hit to my gaming quality by buying one of these.

When I had a 7900GS sometimes I'd run games at 1440x900 instead of native. To tell you the truth it was hard for me to see a difference. I think running non-native res is ok in games, it's on text (internet, windows desktop, those kind of things) where it doesn't look so good... infact while typing up this reply I switched to 1440x900 in my desktop to see the difference, everything looks less sharp. I wouldn't say it looks blurry, but it is noticeably less sharp. But as I said, I don't think you see as dramatic of a difference in games.

I don't believe these monitors will put black bars on the side if you choose a 4:3 image. Ithink all TN panels stretch the image. I could be wrong on that though. But, your better option would probbly be to run a game in a lower widescreen res.
