Acer Q6600 system at CompUSA for $750

Is it that good a deal though? Even if it was after July 22nd? I don't really have to upgrade at all right now, considering there aren't any games I wish to play now or in the near future that I can't play now... if it is a really, really good deal though, I might get it.
If I got it I would want to eventually upgrade things like gpu, which would probably lead to upgrading PSU... I would use it for general stuff and some gaming...

foresee any problems trying to replace psu, etc?

oh, and the mobo too. if it wasn't very good could I upgrade it easily? These questions might sound stupid but I don't know much about prebuilt PC's (or PC's in general compared to people here).

as you stated, you would use it for gaming and other stuff, i recommend upgrading your video card and of course, power supply.

Well, yeah, I know, but you don't foresee any possible problems with that stuff, it being a cheaper prebuilt system? Again, this might sound stupid but I don't know much about this sorta stuff and I don't want to find that I have a crap mobo and PSU that I can't upgrade.

Also, would the fact that it's a minitower cause any problems? Could I take out everything later and move it to a new case?

Personally I don't see how that's a good deal at all. To me it makes a lot more sense to wait for 22nd of July, get the Q6600 for ~$266 along with the rest of the hardware you actually want and not settle for that case, motherboard and weak video card which otherwise you would never buy, right...? just my 2c

Q6600 $266
500 GB 7200 rpm HDD
X1650
Vista Home Premium
2 GB (dunno what the speed is though lol)
Cheap speakers, mouse, KB
Lots of card slots (useful)

I'm trying to think it's not THAT good a deal, but it has free shipping and a free printer (MIR) too... soooo, there's no question it's a deal. I'd rather build everything from scratch but... $$$

I'm basically worried about the stuff being wired together in a way that isn't friendly for people who want to change things around...

edit: after researching a little bit more, I think your right. I'm glad I know that I don't want it now.

I purchased the system for $735 + $65 tax (assuming $165 rebate)

Overall, I think the quality of the system is excellent. However, I found the video card to be EXTREMELY SLOW and UNRELIABLE. I paired the computer with an Acer 22" X221w LCD which I've used for a few weeks already. However, with the E700, every once in a while, the screen would start flickering (to black) for several seconds. If I closed the window or caused the output to change, the screen would stop flickering. I couldn't tie it to to heat or driver issue so i think it is a video card hardware issue. In fact, I found the flickering to occur when running the memory test from the BIOS diagnostics so it definitely has nothing to do with Vista or drivers.

Anyway, since the video card is so slow anyway 3DMark06 score of 1075, I decided to upgrade to a 8600GTS. I'll report back as to whether or not I need to upgrade the PSU to support this video card.

I picked up the MSI fanless version from Newegg.

Otherwise, the computer is VERY fast. 3Dmark06 CPU is over 3000.

Finally, I did a clean install with only the latest drivers (sans Viiv). If anyone is interested in the list, let me know.

It's a good deal, IMHO.

Q6600 $270
G965 Mobo $80
2GB DDR2 $70
500GB HD $100
DVDRW $30
Card Reader $10
KB/Mouse $20
Radeon X1650 $50
Case/PSU $80
Vista Home Premium $120

Total: $830

But you get a full system warranty (not a dozen seperate ones), and it's pre-built.

I have an Acer E700 also as mentioned above.

I replaced the ATI X1650SE with an MSI 8600GTS Fanless (newegg.com) and the system ROCKS now.

Counter Strike: Source video stress is 236fps.

3DMark06 scores are now:

5670 3DMarks
2309 SM 2.0
1987 SM 3.0
3366 CPU

My system is nearly silent except for the slight hum of the CPU fan running at low speed!!!
