This laptop is a solid budget offering, it has dual 2.5 drive bays (1 open) plus an open Msata slot, both the Msata slot and the main 2.5 drive bay are sata 3. (note this is extremely easy to access by just removing 9 screws and the bottom plate).

I recently purchased one of these for my Mom and put in another 4 GB dimm plus a Samsung 840 SSD and for under $600 including the upgrades It's just a killer value.

The keyboard is decent and the screen is an excellent semi glossy, plus this laptop has excellent connectivity including Gigabit Ethernet and Bluetooth 4.0.

Sure, it has a 17" screen, but for $400 you can get an ivy bridge i3 laptop. Newegg just had an i3 for $360 yesterday.

This laptop has much more expandability and upgradeable than that I3 laptop, plus is doesn't have a cheap 1366x768 screen.

It just depends on what your priorities are, if you want a faster processor there are other options, but this laptop has all the bells and whistles for a very inexpensive price.

i think for $20 more if you can get it at staples you are better off with the 17" HP that is on sale right now.

its $20 more, but its a core i3 instead of a pentium dual core so you get HT, and it has a bigger hard drive and more ram.

This is not a bad deal but for the $20 you can add more ram to the Acer and it will then have more than the HP plus the HP does not have an open Msata slot or 2nd 2.5" hard drive bay.

It just depends on what you are looking for, if you are leaving things stock the HP is probably a better buy, but if you plan on adding an SSD or more storage then I think the Acer is a better deal.
