Did you get the Acer 17", it seems like there are better LCD options to go for.
What did you pick?

Also for the +$150 deal... what monitor can you choose, is it any monitor?
A link would be appreciated because I dont see that deal anywhere.

I just picked the standard AL1716BS monitor, which is fine for my aunt.

What does this thing come with for speakers?

I just looked at my receipt and computer rings at $149.99 with special promotional discount applied. the monitor rang up as $189.99. I am thinking of going back and getting a 19" lcd for $199.99 after $50 MIR.

There is some USB speaker that's in the PC's box. Your very basic speaker.

I don't need additional clutter on the desk so I connect the Viewsonic widescreen speaker to the PC. Works fine for me.

Looks like all the local stores that had it are out of stock now, but that could be a computer problem or something else, guess I'll go look in person.

Does anyone who has the PC setup know if the BIOS allows changing the HTT frequency and multiplier?

Thanks.

"What is the fastest CPU that this can be upgraded with?"

"fastest" is a relative term depending on which applications are being run, but socket 939 takes opteron or x2 as well as athlon 64 and sempron
i think so anyway. heard it somewhere

Thanks.

I opened mine up and so far, I see the CPU speed (HTT frequency) setting in the BIOS doesn't do anything. There is no BIOS option to change HTT multiplier or the memory divider - really need the memory divider to overclock :-(

Necessity is the mother of having to buy cheap stuff in a hurry. My kids just killed their HP

We have extra CRT monitors lying around so an upgrade to the Viewsonic 19" LCD to replace my wife?s 17? looks good. I see a $50 rebate so it is $399.98 out the door. Or I could go cheap and get a 17? eMachine CRT for $149.99 minus a $50 mail in rebate, bringing the total package to $249.98!

Question: Can I put a Geforce 7600GS in this Acer?

Yes, the 7600GS would work fine on the PCI Express x16 slot on the motherboard.

Damn sold out at the only local store! Looks like I may have to substitute the AMD64 bundle. I suck at finding bundle deals is there a link to the AMD64 WITH the 17" LCD like kschaffner gave use for the Sempron bundle with 17" LCD?

Going to see if I can get the AMD64 which is on special for $160 off for $220 off like the Sempron which is not in stock. Teaching my kid to yell "bait and switch" incase they say no.

Just got the last one in stock locally. I grabbed a Viewsonic VA1912wb lcd instead of the Acer with no problems. Both came out to 406.58 with tax. It also printed out a 50 and a 30 dollar rebate along with the receipt. So, if both rebates come back without problems, it'll be 326.58. Hard to beat. :)

Holy bait and switch Batman. I called the nearest store asking for the $289.98 Acer on the front of their flyer with a $50 upgrade for the 17? LCD. Sure enough it?s all sold out and the sales guy tried to switch me to the AMD64 deal. The Acer 17? LCD is also out of stock until Sunday. So the total AMD64/17"LCD bundle would be $479.98 NOT hot! I told them that Best Buy pulls this bait and switch all the time, but I expected better from CC and asked for the full $220 discount on the AMD64 bundle. The manager said he was losing money at $160 off and wouldn?t budge. Back to the salesperson who said that he would check to see if he could get a Sempron in by Sunday so I could buy now and pick up the $339.98 deal then. Here is hoping.

The other option is to see if any other local stores sell the Acer T160 Sempron and try to get a price match. Any one know for sure who else carries them?

today is the 5th day this price has been valid, out of stock? tough luck.

Ended up going to CC store tonight. They allowed me to return the original 17" Acer LCD monitor and upgrade to the ViewSonic 19" listed above. The Acer originally rang up as $189 and the new ViewSonic as $229, net increase was $42 after taxes. Here's the interesting part, the rebate printed out as a $50 rebate, so for a decrease of $8 after MIR, ended up with an 19" LCD rather than the 17". Not a bad upgrade! Don't know if this was a fluke. YMMV.

Not sure why, but Acer does this with their notebooks too - the 160GB drive comes split into 2 FAT32 partitions. A quick CONVERT changes to NTFS, but I'm not sure what their obsession is with FAT32.

I went to CC tonight and they didn't have any in stock, but they had one on display. I tried to see if I could get it for cheaper. The salesperson (after checking with the manager) said that I could special order it for the sale price. When it eventually gets delivered to the store, they would notify me and I could then just pick it up. They also said that I could just call in the order with the 800 number.

I think that those who can't find it locally should call the 800 # on the web page with the deal. I haven't tried it, so I don't know for sure, but it seems that anyone can order it via the 800 # and just wait for their local store to be restocked before picking it up.

I was going to have to get one "special ordered" but I wasn't even going to bother unless they would let me substitute for the 19in LCD, neither 2 phone reps, nor the manager or sales person in store would let me do anything except the acer 17 crt or lcd. Newnan, GA.
Asses.

Oh yea I also called the 800 number, because the web site states "Order by phone" Miss broken English said the Acer T160 Sempron is no longer available! I asked the nearest store for a rain check, but they said I could "special order" the $339 bundle and it would be in for pick up in two months! WTF I would like to pick up the advertised special now. If you don't have it available substitute the next best thing for the same discount.

Anyone know if these Acer cases are like HP and Dell where you can't move the MB to a larger case? I have an aluminum case I would love to move this setup into without the hassle of ghetto rigging the front panel wiring due to proprietary plugs like Dell. Just wondering if Acer was the same.
