Acer Aspire? T160 Desktop PC, AMD Sempron? 3200+

Seems like a pretty good price considering equip.
Store price is $289 w/ 16" monitor or $50 more for flat screen upgrade.

Or $349 on web incl S&H, after $20 MIR, w/o monitor. Not sure why you gat on web?

How is Acer quality/relaibility?

Think of getting for my daughter.

Edit: actually Instore ptrice is $289 w/ 16/17" CRT monitor, or $50 upgrade to flat screen

add another 512mb stick of ram and a PCI-e video card and you've got a pretty decent gaming rig.

Very good price!

Acer specs You can make a decent gaming rig out of this for under $500.00

Edit: you can also get it with 17" LCD for $339.00 I'm definitely getting one for my daughter.

Does anyone know if they lock the overclocking options in the bios like Dell and Compaq does?

I could build a faster gaming system for about the same price... it doesn't say what video it has... It must be a crap card or built in... first thing you'd have to do is buy a video card. Why buy a car/computer that you immediately have to buy parts for?

I doubt that, but even if they do, you can get a decent cheapo S939 motherboard for about $40.00

It might be just as easy as figuring our which motherboard it is and flashing the BIOS. :D

You could probably scour FS/FT for a better system, but if you're too lazy to build a system its a great deal.

Ended up buying it it with 17" LCD for $339.00 for my daughter.

Tried to get them to come down on $289, w/o monitor but they wouldn't budge.

Gone to wrap it up and give it to her for B'day tonight. Figure she can take it with her to college. Tried to pull cover on floor model, but there must be some trick and I was in hurry. The machine sounded very quite, but it is hard to tell with all the background noise in store. Peaking in thru cooling perforations on side and based on back panel it looks like that graphics are integral to mobo. It looks like the CPU has a huge heat sink, but possibly it was for chip set. Will know more once it's unboxed.

True, you can certainly build one faster and cheaper, but with this deal you are getting a complete system that has (hopefully) been pretested. It's made of brand new parts covered by at least a 12 month warranty, and best of all....NO rebates!!!!
By the way, it's a built-in nVidia graphics card, most likely the GeForce 6100. While it is by no means a Gamer PC, it's perfect for the average PC user (Internet, older games [and about 80% of the newer ones], word processing, web-page authoring, etc.)

My 18 cents worth (2 cents adjusted for inflation)

It says right on CC's site:

Cool graphics and audio: Integrated nVIDIA® nForce? 4 graphics and external USB speakers are ready for your movies, games and multimedia. This desktop also supports eight channels of audio?upgrade to 7.1 channel surround sound system whenever you?re ready.
Great for gamers: The PCI-Express x16 slot gives you the opportunity to add even more powerful graphics capability.

Ok... I cracked it open... here's what it has under the hood...

Sempron 3200+ 939 CPU
GeForce 6100 Motherboard mATX motherboard (I think that it is an MSI, but I'm not sure yet) - onboard firewire, USB 2.0, HD audio (from the box).
2X256MB Nanya PC3200 DIMMs
LiteOn DVD/CDRW drive
Lite ON PSU... wattage unknown
WD 160GB SATA2 HD (WD1600JS)
9 in 1 card reader
Soft modem...

Not a bad deal at all.

You could huh? You could build a faster gaming system at those specs with a monitor for $289? I'd like to see that.
