Thinking about getting this lcd along with a 8800GTS.

I do a little bit of everything but plan to play a couple of games and do some photo editing. I also have a lcd correction gadget.

What's you guys opinion on the lcd ? any other recommendations. ?

I love mine. Sold my Dell 2405fpw and bought this (+ $$ of course). Don't regret it for a moment. I've seen 3-4 of these monitors between my brother, my buddy, and mine. All had one or two dead pixels but I got mine to disappear and the others weren't too bad.

What, specifically, do you like better about the Acer?

It's probably the best bang for the buck. I have one, and it has no dead pixels.

I don't know that I would recommend it for serious photo editing since it's a 6 bit panel.

Consider looking at the Acer AL2223. It's an updated version of the AL2216 with slightly higher contrast ratio and HDCP support and it should be at about the same price or even cheaper.

Just buy a CRT and put Vasoline all over it then you got yourself a Acer AL2216WBD.

Seriously worst LCD I've seen out of about 20, worse than the Dell 2407 too. It's blochy, blurry, serious back light bleed, pixilated colors and very few colors with poor dithering. About the the only thing decent is it's horizontal viewing angles. yo get what you pay for here inexpensive $300 and big 22" don't expect a miracle. I suggest the Dell 20" WS for around the same price.

Why won't people pay for better monitors? :(

Seriously :(

TNs are so ****** IMHO...

I would highly recommend spending more money for an S/M-PVA or S-IPS display...it's so worth it.

Especially in the case of Fear who goes though $2000 rigs every six months to be using a $300 montior. TOTOTALLY redicoulous.

Fear - you went the wrong direction, Dell 3007 would have made you estatic.

N7 have you not seen 70/90GX2? Not all TN's are ****:)

I changed from a 22in $1000 CRT (it died) to a AL2216, I honesty couldn't tell any difference in games. Maybe in professional photo editing you might notice some drawbacks. I am pleased with the Acer.

Yes, yes i have.

The GX2s (or even the orginal 1770/1970GX) are somewhat of an exception to that rule.
Opticlear comes close to making them miraculously better.

/wishes Opticlear was more widespread for desktop LCDs already...

I have the acer- love it.
Not blurry, blotchy or ANYTHING like that...not sure what he's talking about really.
And yes, I have used "better" lcd's in the past and still am very very pleased w/ this moniter, especially for the price

I assume you're referring to me but if not than I apologize.

I debated for a long time whether to sell my 2405fpw and buy a less expensive monitor + Xbox 360 or keep my 24" beauty. I thought I'd see a big difference in quality and size but to tell you the truth there isn't much I miss about my 24". The adjustable stand and built-in card reader are about it.

I'm no monitor expert, so I don't know all the ins and outs of quality, but for your average user/gamer I think they are a heck of a good deal. Plus I get to game on my 360 now.

I don't know where you got that I go through a $2000 rig every six months but I really don't spend that much on my rig. I have a partnership account with ATI that gets me 40% off their products and I have a buddy that works for Intel who gets me cheap parts. You jump on enough rebate deals and a rig doesn't have to be that expensive.

By going with a 2" smaller monitor with a lower resolution I don't have to upgrade as much, plus I got enough cash to almost buy an Xbox 360. That's why I say I'm happy with the switch.

What a total load. It looks just as good as every other 22 LCD. It's not blotchy, it's not blury, and it puts out 262,144 colors just like every 6-bit monitor out there. Bleed is very minor, and really only noticeable when the screen is mostly black. The last Dell monitor I saw had far worse light bleeding.

I got a 2216WBD when they first came out, and I love mine. Great value, excellent quality screen.

Like others have said, all 22" LCD's seem to use the same panel, and are very similar in quality.

Very sharp screen - just make sure you use DVI :D .
