According to the Pope, your dog can now go to heaven

Then there must be a doggy hell too. :'(

Homer: I want to tell you about the most wonderful place in the world: Doggie Heaven. In Doggie Heaven, there are mountains of bones, and you can't turn around without sniffing another dog's butt! And all the best dogs are there, Old Yeller, and about eight Lassies.
Bart: Is there a Doggie Hell?
Homer: Well... of course, there couldn't be a heaven if there weren't a hell.
Bart: Who's in there?
Homer: Oh, uh... Hitler's dog... and that dog Nixon had, what's his name, um, Chester...
Lisa: Checkers.
Homer: Yeah! One of the Lassies is in there, too. The mean one! The one who mauled Timmy!

"paradise is open to all God's creatures."

Darn it! All those mosquitoes I killed... went to Heaven... where they're waiting to extract their revenge upon me.

Except for the part that it wasn't what he said at all. Dogs go to heaven in the same way a tree, rock or river goes to heaven. This has been part of Christianity since the beginning.

"Our understanding of heaven ... is that love doesn't die, that the circle of love becomes complete when you're united to God, that God calls all creation to himself, and of course the animal kingdom is part of that creation," Beck told CNN.

Beck != Pope. Seems to me the pope kinda did say dogs go to heaven.

I love the way the Catholic church thinks heaven works. Dogs couldn't go to heaven before the pope said they could, but now that he has it's all good. I wonder if the guys who went out on the Crusades could be retroactively extracted from heaven if the pope decided that what they did was bad after all?

Dogma is fun.
