LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A giant asteroid that astronomers initially thought could crash into the Earth in about 17 years will instead pass harmlessly by, scientists at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory said.

..."With the processing of a few more observations of asteroid 2002 NT7 through July 28, we can now rule out any Earth impact possibilities for February 1, 2019," JPL said in the statement.

Damn! I was looking forward to armor-plating my car and fighting mutant bikers for fuel in a post-apocalyptic wasteland!

Bah. I say it's a conspiracy. They know damn well it's going to hit, but want to tell us it won't so that we won't panic.

Do you ever scratch your head and wonder how many levels of reverse psychology go into each of this ASTERIOD stories

I mean, it's not like they are going to tell us 17 years in advance that it's going to happen. Id say they are silly for telling us 2 days in advance. It can only lead to mass chaos, as well as empty beer coolers at my local liquor store
