blah blah blah, my opinion is correct, every carefully controlled study that proves otherwise is false.

Fixed for clarity. :p

It's amazing that you haven't noticed how the majority of drivers out there making dangerous/reckless lane changes, etc. all seem to be engaged in a conversation on their cell phones. The fact that states like NY have watered down cell phone laws (hands free is allowed) simply shows to show how much donations from the cell phone industry to legislators can affect legislation. It was a 2nd windfall for them - now they get to sell the handsfree equipment as well!

You know who I ALWAYS see on their cellphone? Cops. The other day I was downtown and I saw a University Officer on the tele and a city cop.

I've noticed a lot of people driving recklessly while not talking on a cell phone, what's your point?

It's all bogus. I'm not afraid to say I talk on the phone when driving. Goes all the way back to when I was 16 with a bag car phone. Just because a few people cannot handle it doesn't mean it should be banned for everyone. There are more idiot drivers who do not talk on cell phones, what's going to be done about them?

And I have been rear-ended by someone talking on a cell phone not paying attention thinking the light had turned green. Doesn't bother me, though. And I've been forced to be the middle car of three on a two lane interstate because a jackass never looked before merging, he wasn't on a cell phone, he pissed me off a lot more even though no damage was done.

Yeah, and some people can drive perfectly well when they have had 12 beers. Others can't drive worth a damn if they had had ONE.

Drinking laws were made to protect people from the latter. Some people CAN drive just fine while on the phone and others can't, so like other laws made to protect the public for the AVERAGE or below average diver it should be illegal for ANYONE to drive while on the phone.

I have seen many drivers who are worse than me while im assuming completely sober and not on a phone, compared to some drivers who are on a phone who drive fine, and I have been in that seat a few times. some people are better able to juggle multiple things at once.

I used to work in a lab across the hall from that lab. They complained about us being too noisy once.

I hate holding the handset while driving so i tell will talk for 5 - 10 mins max, usually just cruising. If I have my headset then it's a different story, I could talk for a long time because I don't have a problem concentrating on the road. If you don't drive all aggressively then it won't be a problem. If there was trouble, I wouldn't even be paying attention to the caller anymore so I'm not sure how that limits my ability to control the vehicle. If i was drunk then my reaction time, reasoning, etc might be off so I think that it is more dangerous to be drunk. You can't turn off drunk

People would be better off with less distractions, that pull their attention away from the potential dangerous job of driving. Cellphones just add another venue to which the drivers attention will be focused anywhere but where it should be. Think about if you weren't in front of that cellphone driver. Had he went out into the intersection someone could've been seriously hurt or killed. All from the compelling need to talk on a phone.

I think that highlights the fact that people don't realize the grave implications of trying to juggle multiple things while driving. I've seen people driving peacefully along...reading a book or the newspaper. Honestly what they are thinking is beyond me.

Everyone's all for the "freedom over safety" thing, that was posted a couple days ago - until they actually get a real issue put in front of them, then they start talking about banning things in the name of safety.

Make it illegal to drive dangerously, not illegal to drive while operating specific devices.

I guess by your own logic you don't care about the safety of others (cell phone users and drunk drivers in this case) so you don't deserve to live.

I agree that something should be done, but killing them isn't the answer.

killing is always the answer.

they are all dangerous, but speaking with a hands free set is the least. atleast you're free to move around. but in reality, it is still dangerous as you are not giving 100% of your attention to the road as should be.
