Demonstrably false. When a road emergency happens, the passenger shuts up and lets you drive. When a road emergency happens, the person on the other side of the cell phone attempts to get MORE of your attention because you aren't responding. Thus, the cell phone is clearly more distracting than conversing with a passenger when it really matters. Many tests have proven this.Originally posted by: Doboji
1) Using a handsfree set is the same as having a conversation with a passenger.
Probably true. But driving while sleepy is dangerous.2) driving with a BAC of .08 is not any more dangerous for most people than being sleepy
Duh.3) driving with a handset pushed up against your ear is dangerous... it limits your head movement, and it limits you to one hand...

People driving drunk OR using a cell phone while driving should be shot on the spot. They don't care for their own safety or the safety of others. They don't deserve to live.

This is your logic in work: playing Russian roulette is just as dangerous as having someone randomly push you or a friend of a skyscraper. Thus, you shouldn't worry about playing Russian roulette.

Bah, regardless, I could have a few in me, high on weed, high on opiates, and talk on the phone, in the dark, while raining, and still drive better than most people.
😉 Though there is some truth to that. Though throw in some zannies and I might start swerving. 🙂

I personally cannot focus on driving when I'm talking on the phone, and it's even worse when I have to hold the headset. When I'm a little buzzed if anything I'm more focused on driving, and drive more carefully and better. So the argument makes sense to me.

I guess by your own logic you don't care about the safety of others (cell phone users and drunk drivers in this case) so you don't deserve to live.
I agree that something should be done, but killing them isn't the answer.

I agree that killing them is an extreme sort of a solution but merely passing a bill won't stop them from using the cell phone(most of the people anyway) and drunk drivers don't care if they hit someone, they're drunk.

speaking strictly from a non-politically correct stereotypical standpoint you forgot to add the options:
while a woman
while an asian
while over the age of 60
to the poll 😛

Some people actually still drive well with a cell phone.
I have yet to see someone drive well while being fairly drunk. There are people who can take a few more than others, but i'm talking about when you are just that drunk.
I had to vote for drunk since the poll said which is worse.

I've noticed a lot of people driving recklessly while not talking on a cell phone, what's your point?Originally posted by: TGS
I've noticed a great deal of the people not paying attention to the road, typically appear to be holding a phone with one hand.

It's all bogus. I'm not afraid to say I talk on the phone when driving. Goes all the way back to when I was 16 with a bag car phone. Just because a few people cannot handle it doesn't mean it should be banned for everyone. There are more idiot drivers who do not talk on cell phones, what's going to be done about them?
And I have been rear-ended by someone talking on a cell phone not paying attention thinking the light had turned green. Doesn't bother me, though. And I've been forced to be the middle car of three on a two lane interstate because a jackass never looked before merging, he wasn't on a cell phone, he pissed me off a lot more even though no damage was done.
