Once you make a bid, you agree to it and your bid is a binding contract.

Not only are you trying to weasle out of your winning bid because you think you made a mistake but you are wasting this persons time. You really think he's concerned about you when you don't want to pay for the auction and you want him to spend time helping you out?

Binding contract my ass sellers cancle actions all the time but get all pissed off when a bidder doesn't want to pay.

Wow, some of you lot are quite ruthless.

I think if I were in the seller's position I would be understanding. I did email the seller instantly, within seconds of the close. I have offered to pay the auction fees.

Like I said, if he puts up a stink I'll pay for the item I rightfully won, but I'm giving him the chance to help me out. It's up to him, I guess.

its within their right as long as the auction is still open. its in the "contract".

a deals a deal. you can ask for leniency from the seller, but legally you are obligated.

It's not ruthlessness it stupidity on your side, no offense. Like someone else said, you have to enter the bid amount first, next when you bid you hit the bid button and then confirm it again. There is no way one can make a mistake about this. If it was one click purchase I would understand but this is a 3 step process.

All they have to do is contact the runner up and offer it to them instead. No big deal if the company is nice.

I hate when that happens. But it is a legal binding contract. You can ask to see if you can cover his relisting fees and what not. If not you're SOL and will have to purchase both items unless you want to end up with a NPB sent in to ebay.

if the item costs a lot, then either pay the fees or just take a neg. 1 negative out of 100 positives is not the end of the world.

If it's not that expensive, i'd say buy it and if you don't like it relist it on eBay.

If it's cheap, just buy it.

If you want to pay the auction fees, I suggest you send it immediately and not just say you will be paying for it -- your credibility at this point is beneath anything so the seller may simply not believe you.

Bingo. I just bid on the wrong window. Having two open was dumbass on my part, I suppose. Both auctions were ending within minutes and I wanted to make sure I wouldn't miss.

Anyway, the seller contacted me and was very understanding. I apologized again, paid the auction fees, and left positive feedback.

Haha, something like that happened to me once.

I was accidentally naked with a girl who was accidentally naked too and she wasn't my girlfriend and I accidentally fell on her and there was penetration and the girlfriend was mad.

I notified the girlfriend, but she didn't care. I had to pay.

Unless it's really $$$, just pay for it. You obviously were at least INTERESTED in the item. If it's expensive, explain to the seller what happened and maybe he'll let you off... maybe. Else, go into hiding and hope the FBI doesn't come knocking down your door forcing the bill down your throat ;)

Just explain your situation to them and offer to pay the listing and end of auctions fees. I'm sure they will understand.
