Accessing my iPod through firewire?

I have a Gigabyte K8NXP SLI mobo, which has both 1334a and b (the 800mb). I know my ipod only supports the 400mbs but regardless..... When i plug it into the port that i have running from the motherboard on it lights up my ipod, but nothing goes on on my computer. How do I access it or let it be seen?? I can get it to work if i use the firewire port on my SB Audigy card but I was just curious why I cant see anything over the other connection. Did I hook something up wrong?

tried it both ways..... when i plug into the audigy firewire port i hear the little windows chime and itunes opens up....

i get nothing but the light on in the other port

how would i enable them? they look fine to me.... i have two 1334 network connections in my network properties box.

is that how its supposed to be
