Just got this email from my access4less account:

We?re writing with some important news. On May 20, 2005, Access4Less.net will
discontinue
offering dial-up Internet access. In order to keep you connected, we?ve made a special
arrangement with EarthLink, the nation?s next generation Internet Service Provider
(ISP).

Please read below for important information about this service change.

***************************************************
EARTHLINK UNLIMITED DIAL-UP ACCESS
***************************************************
For only $9.95 per month*, you?ll receive:

* Unlimited Internet access
* spamBlocker ? blocks virtually 100% of junk email
* Pop-Up Blocker ? blocks almost all pop-ups

In addition, we?ve arranged for you to retain your current Access4Less.net email

the Internet may change. EarthLink will notify you of any changes that you may need
to make
closer to the time of the transition.

***********************
WHAT TO EXPECT

I'm like wtf...i pay $6 a month whih is perfectly fine by me for 56K access...but your going to AUTOMATICALLY transfer me to a $10/month account with a company liek earthlink?!??! I don't see how this can legal but i already opted-out/killed my account. This totally sux, I'm not in a place where i can get cable internet, and finding a good provider thats less than $10/month is hard to find :disgust::|

Wouldn't you be pissed if they jacked up your cable internet price by 65%?

probably...but would i freak out if my dial-up access went up from $6 to $10?

probably not

My cable and broadband access goes up every time I look at the bill.
I bitch (you've covered that) and whine (you need to cross that bridge here) and then I just pay the bill.

Will be a lot more than $4

Earthlink tacks on all kinds of phoney "Non" Government fees as well to pad their bottom line while still advertising a lower price.

The U.S. is just one giant legal Corporate scamming operation now.

First thing it's 4 bucks.

Second of all, if it were high speed and your price jumped from 46 to 50 (already expensive) I could see you complaining.

WHO cares.

I think people reading this thread fail to see that its more than "just $4". It's the principal of being sold out on and screwed subtley.

I sad reading how all of you would just take a $4 increase and a change in companies and shrug it off as nothing...sure $4 is nothing but I'm not going to take a 65% increase in a bill for a service that frankly isn't worth $10 a month anymore...thats just me though i guess
I dunno if its that some of you are just unconfrontational or just like having companies bend you over and ram it in, but i find it kinda sad that people would just shrug it off and pay

I don't see how this can legal

How's that? So if I sell you something monthly, and want to sell my company the new company has to honor my prices for how long? They said if you have already prepaid, they'd honor it for the length they owe you. That's a requirement. But they don't have to sell you anything. They could just kick you off at the end of your current paid term (the end of the month I'm gathering) and say bye. They have no legal obligation to honor the other company's pricing past what is currently a liability, specifically those that have prepaid service due. You've got two options, stay with them and pay the new rate, or cancel. You chose cancel. Does it suck? Yes. Is it legal? Yes.

They can't opt you into a 1 year contract you have not signed or agreed to when you agreed to month-month service. I don't see how that'll fly.

I've that same email last week. The funny thing is I used to have Earthlink for dial up a while back. I changed to Access4less because it is cheaper <$6 vs. $20>. I am moving into my new house and about to get broadband so it will not be a big deal.

Is Earthlink a good company? Yes. Is it good enough to pay extra compare to the old Access4less? Nope.

<<<----used to have local ISP, then Earthlink, then Access4Less. About to get broadbandin May.
