I just finished setting up a new mobo with the sis 645 chipset and p4 1.6a. Two different video cards give me the same error message when trying to load a game: "exception: access violation in dsound (+0x21c83). Any ideas on how to remedy this? Thanks to all who reply.

I don't think its the video card, try a new directx or reinstall the game. If it is with a lot of games then its probably directx problem. If it isn't that then you might want to make sure everything is set to default on your video cards, ie directx and opengl settings.

Hope this helps.

You might also try lowering the hardware acceleration in the sound card/multimedia properties.

Thanks for your replies. I've tried the onboard sound and a cheap 32 bit soundcard with the ess allegro driver. Same problem. This scenario sounds just like a classic via problem. Right now, I wish it were; at least via responds with constant updates on their website. It may take sis 6 months just to recognize the problem. I may be sending this computer to my brother who doesn't play games much. Will be a nice upgrade from his old k6-400.
