Access point vs. Router

What is the difference between an access point and a router with regards to wireless networking? How many computers can you have connected to either? ex. Linksys WRT54G

thanks

Q: How many wireless clients can access one Access Point.

Linksys recommends that no more than 32 wireless nodes attach to your Access Point. Adding more than 32 nodes will severly decrease available bandwith.

Q: Will the Access Point function in a Mac environment?
A: Yes, the WAP11 will communicate with Macs using 802.11b compliant equipment.

So it's really the samething, but better. All Linksys routers come with WAP so you'll have encrytion security plus the ability to roam around your wireless node without data loss. You just have to remember that the router must have only a static IP while the other network devices can use DHCP.

i wouldn't suggest getting a router with wireless networking built in, it usually never bridges the networks, they are always separate and you can't ping computers on the wired network,or vise versa.
