Access Point Setup

I'm admittedly light on AP knowledge as I mainly do residential work and single routers typically get the job done. I'm doing a larger job for a business owner who already has a sonicwall router. He has a current Cisco AP setup that is 5 years old and is likely Wireless G rated and maybe even older. I imagine newer hardware would be in order. I have these questions.

1. Suggestions on hardware to use. I normally use Netgear stuff but in my reading even the N900 top of the line doesn't truly state it's AP ready. It just says it can be set as a repeater. I've looked on Amazon and the Cisco WAP4410 seems to get good reviews and has good features for a reasonable price.

2. What information should I know beforehand?

3. What to expect during setup. My general sense is that I'll have to find out the subnet the lan is using and assign static IPs to each AP. I plan on using 2 or 3.

4. Can I set each one up with the same network ID and password?

5. What do I have to do to allow machines to move between access points based on signal strength?

6. Anything else I should know?

You would have to run Cat5/6 cables from a wired router to the access points.

For the access points themselves, you could either use dedicated devices (that have no routing/DHCP functions) or configure wireless routers. Simply disable the DHCP functionality on the devices.

Cable is already in place as he has 2 AP's now.

I would give the customer options... explain to him the netgear Ap and a new CISCO AP.....

I am not a big fan of mixing cisco and netgear etc together but that is me..

If I replace it's going to be a full replacement. I've decided to use the Cisco wap4410 series and he has approved the purchase.

Put Wireless Routers with Dual Radios configured as Access Point.

Using a Wireless Router as a switch with an Access Point - http://www.ezlan.net/router_AP.html

Wireless devices should be configured with the same SSID and passwords, using different spaced a part channels, like Ch-1 and Ch-11.

Example for good reasonably prices Wireless Routers (also DD-WRT capable if needed).
