I was thinking about buying $30 ethernet CF card to be able to access net from bedroom which already wired. I have a Ipaq 3635. Is it even worth it? How slow is it? Is the screan viewable?

Thanks

I tried this. I even went fancy; I have a Wireless CF. The connection to the Wireless Router is easy like a breeze.

As far as I am concern, it is only good for emergency email.

The speed is tolerable. However, the size of the screen makes it useless for any functional surfing.

The typical resolution employed by most sites is 800 X 600 (many sites use higher resolution). The iPaq screen is much less then a ¼ of the typical size.

I use wireless on my Sharp Zaurus and browsing with Konq or Opera is nice. It's very fast, running off DSL and is seemingly almost the same speed as on a desktop. It's nice to be able to troubleshoot things or have AIM in my pocket while I'm around the house or the general area. I can browse the net, stream MP3's off my server with xmms, watch videos off my server with mplayer, chat on irc or AIM and do pretty much anything I can on a desktop on my Z with wireless. The wireless really makes the PDA worthwhile for me as it acts just like another computer and I can use it wherever it is in the house as I run an SSH daemon, a VNC server and an FTP server on it.

Anyway, YMMV.

Good luck.

In light of Nighthawk69 comments let me revise my above statement.

If you are doing a variety of tasks that involves typing a line or two, moving stuff, controlling other computers, etc. the iPaq can act as a neat computerized remote control.

Surfing the Net is intolerable for me.

I find that browsing the Internet on the Ipaq's tiny screen is not really worth it for me. The ability to check email is nice though.

Right now, I am using a Compaq Ipaq brand WLAN PC Card (on clearance at Radio Shack for $29.99) with a Belkin wireless router. It was easy to set up (I had zero prior experience with networking), and I have not had any problems.

I'd have to agree. I have an iPaq 3835 with a wireless card(D-Link) and it's pretty much useful only for e-mail and other simple stuff. You can browse the internet but the size is too small and the ipaq's small processor can't really handle all the images.
