This folder...

C:\d5ac832c2b6cb

is on the hard drive of my new computer and I can't delete it. I've tried safe mode and the safe mode command prompt. There are subfolders also like

asms
download
ip
lang
new
update

I'm not allowed in those either to see what they contain. What the H? How do I delete this crap?

When you run a Microsoft service pack installer or hotfix, they generate random folder names of that nature... maybe that's the origin of it, FWIW.

I've tried deleting from prompt, it says access denied. I've read that file system issues can cause this. Is scandisk available in Windows XP pro? Also, can I get to a prompt w/o going through windows? How?

I can't even get into the folders! I don't think its a rogue program either. I think it may be a service pack folder. I just want to get rid of it w/o reformatting. I just installed all of my software. I don't want to do it again. BTW, I built this computer.

Get Cyberscrub, which will automatically delete files/folders the next time you reboot your computer.

What it does... when you logon to Windows it stops Windows from loading anything in the background and delete the files or folders that you had trouble deleting. Once done, Cyberscrub will allow Windows to resume normally.
