Yeah, that pasadena weather really blows, Caltech is a uber ugly campus, and academics sucks there.
Don't get me wrong...MIT is a great school but Caltech definitely does not suck.

I decided to graduate as a junior and now I'm happy that I did. 🙂
Other school decisions don't come out until April 1st. 🙁
LMAO, he won the freaking westinghouse, he'll get a free ride anywhere. since he wants to be a lawyer, i'd say mit. since he'll want to go to harvard or yale for law. imo, such a waste for a brilliant person to go into law. it would better for society if you created stuff, rather than become a leach on society... but that's another debate.Originally posted by: miniMUNCH
If you want to do Math or CS I honestly would have to go with Cal Tech...unless you are set on doing CS, in which case I'd recommend taking a serious look a Carnegie Mellon (if you applied I'm sure you'll get in).
MIT and Caltech are close enough in math and CS (maybe the edge goes to MIT according to U.S. News and World report) that, IMO, it comes down to quality of life.
Pasadena is an awesome place to live....weather is terrific year round, there is tons to do, girls are better looking (I've been on Caltech's campus many, many a time... lots of cute geek girls plus the girls from Occidental that take courses at Caltech. Coming from Az., you will probably like the weather better in SoCal than other places.
On the other hand, Cambridge/Boston has its appeal and is a fun town in its own respect...maybe you'd like the complete change in atmosphere that the East Coast would bring.
One more thing...is there a significant difference in financial packages being offered by MIT and Caltech? Because you really need to consider what your financial situation will be like after graduation. I'm assuming that you are going to go to grad school after undergrad but, even with a Ph.D. salary, student loans can be a bitch.
Edit: didn't catch the part about the 50K scholarship...but even so, that won't even cover half your expenses.

way to over-generalize. i'd love to hear why you think all, or even the majority, of lawyers are leeches. it's the same as calling programmers leeches because there happen to be a few that produce spyware / adware / malware.
