AC2 router causing lag

I've got a friend who plays a lot of Asheron's Call 2.

Router:
SMC SMC7004ABR

Cable Modem:
RCA DMC215

If he connects his Computer directly to the Cable Modem, it works fine.
[RCA DMC215] -> [Computer] = Works fine

If he puts the router in the mix, he gets lag.
[RCA DMC215] -> [SMC SMC7004AR] -> [Computer] = Lag

After 5 minutes of play, he gets a 20 second freeze. After 10 minuetes of play, he gets a 25 second freeze.

I can only imagine that this is fairly unplayable. Any Suggestions?

Tried putting it in a DMZ? if that works, maybe you need to look at your port forwarding settings. I doubt it'll be a problem for long, I played AC2 beta till the end and I believe it still stinks.
