AC Unity PC tech trailer

Ubisoft and NVidia released AC Unity's PC tech trailer, showcasing the PC specific enhancements..

NVIDIA HBAO+ adds realistic Ambient Occlusion shadowing and shading around objects and surfaces that occlude light, with a higher degree of precision than other AO techniques, significantly improving image quality in every scene.

NVIDIA Percentage-Closer Soft Shadows add contact hardening soft shadows throughout the game, increasing image quality in every scene.

NVIDIA GeometryWorks Advanced Tessellation adds real DirectX 11-powered geometric detail to roads, rooftops, buildings, and many more game elements, improving the realism and detail level of almost every game scene. Furthermore, with the addition of real geometric detail, enhanced surfaces and objects can be accurately shaded and shadowed by HBAO+ and PCSS, increasing realism and graphical fidelity by an even greater degree.

NVIDIA TXAA temporal anti-aliasing eliminates the distracting movement of anti-aliased lines and edges, and also eliminates other artifacts associated with anti-aliasing. Edge anti-aliasing is comparable with 8xMSAA, but at the performance cost of 4xMSAA.

You’ll also receive the usual PC benefits such as improved textures, effects and assets, along with control options, faster framerates, the ability to render the game at higher resolutions, such as 4K, and the ability to play the game at a higher resolution on your HD monitor with new NVIDIA Dynamic Super Resolution (DSR) technology.

Looking great I must say. AC Unity looks like it will be a stunningly detailed game 😎 I especially like how they're making use of the terrain tessellation..

I will be getting it once I verify that the game runs well on PC. The port is being handled by Ubisoft Kiev, the same studio that did AC IV PC. AC IV on PC was a good port imo, so I have high hopes that AC Unity on PC will be the same if not better.

This is the crucial part for us PC gamers.

AC IV ran good my Nvidia 460 and on my AMD 290.
It was a decent port (best water/ripples since Just Cause), but I would prefer more responsiveness, less latency.
Only then I would call it good port.

ACIV latency wasn't as bad as Far Cry 3, but still very far from say Rage responsiveness.

Ubisoft Kiev (AC3) is making the pc port. Big chances that this will run terrible in all hardware.

The trailer actually looks mediocre. Textures are ho-hum and the visuals are far behind a lot of other titles. It also looks like another one of these :

I seem to have heard this BS before somewhere.

Yeah Grooveriding we get it, you don't like Ubisoft. I was burned by Watch Dogs too, but AC Unity is developed by another team and the game is on another engine.

I'm willing to give them a chance, as I personally enjoy the AC games and I've never had one that didn't run well on my system..

As for the textures, the textures look fantastic imo. Remember this is a massive open world game, and not some linear corridor shooter..

I have no personal experience with AC3, but AC IV which was done by Ubisoft Kiev ran very well on my system. Constant 60 FPS basically..

btw French have used guillotine all the way to 70s............ and we still don't know is it painful pfff......

But But if they used a new engine they would have to break their yearly release cycle. We can't have that.

From memory this 780 Ti couldn't turn on all those features with AC 4 and AA @ 1200p. I only played AC 3 for a day or three then uninstalled it. Seemed very boring and is Boston really that gloomy and foggy?

The clothing textures look terrible IMO and the characters could use a higher detail/poly count.

2:13 says it all.

Watched the video and TXAA still looks terrible (washout textures) but nvidia insists to promote as a feature.

Instead of just playing the game (Alien Isolation) fully maxed out (1080p) on underclocked 290 with barely 50% GPU usage

and no way whatsoever (no TXAA, no DSR, no SGSSAA, no Custom resolution) to get rid of pixel crawling on horizontal/vertical lines in otherwise beautiful game.

There is SMAA T2X and it's decent, but 50% of my GPU is sitting idle when it could have been used to supersample for example, or god forbid TXAA.

The AC franchise is like COD at this point. They excrete a reskin out every year as a full product. Ubisoft has eclipsed Activision as the pinnacle of failure 'AAA' devoloper. Have they confirmed this won't have the 30fps lock they said provides a superior experience to 60fps because 30fps has a 'cinematic feel' ?

wow that alley shot @ 2:08 looks absolutely stunning in motion! [a little bit of Moblur would be nice]
Really too bad this is a gameworks title. le sigh.

asscreed doesn't really benefit from 60fps...it has a very slow play speed. If anything they would need to work on latency for the parry system but that would be it.

Man, that TXAA looks great. I don't have to blur my screen anymore! D: I liked the Nvidia marketing buzz words in the first post though. There's nothing like "percentage closer soft shadows".

Are you serious? 😱 Arno's clothing textures look very detailed to me. I can see the creases, and even the differences in the fabric between his undershirt and his coat..

Plus it's a YouTube video, so the compression is going to muddy the image a lot. Actual gameplay should look much better..

If people want super hi rez textures, there's a price to pay in storage capacity and VRAM, which I don't think is justified given that there are diminishing returns.

The PC version was never locked, only the console versions were. A 30 FPS lock on the PC version would be illogical and foolish.

someone should dig out that thread with early Crysis 3 IQ analyses (before the game went to Gaming Evolved), so we can all have good laugh
