Help. I got a ac unit for my new apartment and its a 220v and my outlet is a 110v.i got the unit cheap since the new ones are pricey. What do i do???

As mentioned in your other thread, this unit just isn't going to work in your situation.

Yes, they do make step-up transformers that can convert the voltage -- I see units on Amazon that can do up to 5000 watts -- but that's not going to solve your problem.

The wiring to a 110V outlet is likely rated for 15 amps, which is 1650 watts. The A/C plus the converter will almost certainly exceed the circuit's capacity. If you're lucky, you'll just blow a breaker. If you're unlucky, you'll start a fire.

Don't do this. The air conditioner is built for 220V because it needs more power than a standard 110V outlet can provide. No amount of conversion can change that fact.

A 5000-watt converter is $115 on Amazon. Home Depot has several window air conditioners for $119, and which won't set your building on fire.

Is it a window unit? I assumed it was prolly a window unit from europe or some such. Shouldn't draw more then 1650 watts for sure. But if its a unit that requires 220v because its massive and has a big power draw, then yea its gonna need its own 220v line.
