The car's AC hasn't worked for about a year, and I just wondered, would one of those AC recharge cans work ok, or would it be better to first get the system evacuated first and then use the AC recharge can ?

Yeah, the compressor works fine, it just isn't blowing cold air.

If it needs to be evacuated first, about how much does that run anyway ?

If it is low on refrigerant then you have a leak. Refilling it may work for a short while but will eventually leak out and quit working again.

When I was looking at those cans, some of them say they fix leaks, would that suffice, or should I just pay the $99 + refrigerant cost for a local shop to fix it ?
