Not the most ethical thing to do, but do yoh have any vacant subdivisions nearby? Swing by one and pop open a unit and grab one. I wouldn't advocate this normally, but if it is a matter of your dog dying, why not.

This happened to me last Sunday. $316 to replace the capacitor/get system inspected. At least I was able to absorb some knowledge out of the repair guy.

Wow, how much of that was the "weekend/holiday" fee?

Which means none since none are open on Sunday. Some places will open for a few minutes to sell you parts and charge you $100-150 extra but you have to be a contractor which means your $10 capacitor is now going to cost you over $500 by the time you get done with the service call.

Sorry, but unless you find an old fashioned hardware store open today that carries this kind of item you will have to wait until tomorrow.

Yea but a dead dog is way more crying than $500. :'(

Look for old Tube TVs, they usually have big caps inside, and these caps can take serious beating and weathering, and LIVE.

You have to be careful with tube TVs or anything with big caps in them. Capacitors can hold a charge for quite a while.

edit: which can zap you.

Not true.

When I lived in Gwinnett county Georgia just northeast of Atlanta I was able to get one from an AC place on a hot Sunday afternoon for $30.

I have yet to see an "AC place" open on Sunday, not one. Some will open till noon on Sat, I call shens unless you can link us to said "AC place"...

Won't work unless you can find an exact match with the broken unit, there are many different physical designs and Mf and voltage values, also some are dual units that are used for the compressor and the fan, you can't just slap anything in there..
