AC Not Working... Where to Buy Capacitor in DC on SUNDAY?

I took a look at the capacitor on the outside unit of my AC system. The capacitor is bulging on one end and probably needs to be replaced. I've already replace the fuses, but the unit still will not turn on (fan nor compressor).

I've got a very sick dog in my home and I worry about him overheating. When he does, his trachea collapses and he can suffer a heat stroke. It is important to my family that I secure a capacitor tomorrow, Sunday, here it the greater Washington DC area. However, I do know know where to go. I know they do not sell them at Home Depot, Lowe's and/or Ace. Does anyone have an idea where I can go to purchase one? I'm a bit short this month, otherwise I would hire in a contractor to install the part, but I seriously can not afford that right now. I also would prefer not to have to wait until Tuesday when a part can arrive overnight. At that point, my little dog may have already been in trouble.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Thank you for the ideas, everyone. I think we are going to keep our little guy in the basement tomorrow, and try our luck with the supply companies on Monday. Thank again!

Any AC/heating cooling service place that is open on Sunday I'm sure will sell you one.

Which means none since none are open on Sunday. Some places will open for a few minutes to sell you parts and charge you $100-150 extra but you have to be a contractor which means your $10 capacitor is now going to cost you over $500 by the time you get done with the service call.

Sorry, but unless you find an old fashioned hardware store open today that carries this kind of item you will have to wait until tomorrow.

Not true.

When I lived in Gwinnett county Georgia just northeast of Atlanta I was able to get one from an AC place on a hot Sunday afternoon for $30.

Yeah Dave we know, you know how to do everything everywhere. My best friend is an AC contractor. From what he tells me if you are correct then your experience is the anomaly not the rule, but that pretty much covers everything you say.

Can't afford to take care of the home you live in, yet you have a dog.

Priorities. You don't have them.

STFU, your posts about dogs are stupid and tiring. Shouldn't you be deciding on taking a job at Burger King or staying at McDonalds?

I only mentioned "dog" because the OP mentioned "dog."

My post would have been the same if it'd been "baby" or "car" or pretty much anything else.

Society has fucked up priorities when someone can't maintain their living space but spends ample money they obviously don't have on stupid shit they don't need.

Baby, stupid shit? Wow, you are a sad individual. Get some help.

I'd have had more compassion if it were a baby, certainly. However, just because one has a penis and can sleep with someone of the opposite sex does not mean that they should have a baby.

Plan your life and you won't have to choose between you eating and your dog eating.

what? How is a blown capacitor, something completely out of his hands, not taking care of his home? It's not like the things are on a damn timer. They go when they go. I'm very confused.

You could try calling an AC repair shop and seeing if they'd be willing to sell you the part without sending someone out.

Get a window unit from wal Mart for $100 if you have to. That'll keep the house decent until Monday.

This happened to me last Sunday. $316 to replace the capacitor/get system inspected. At least I was able to absorb some knowledge out of the repair guy.

LOL, do you maintain a home? It sure sounds like you don't. No matter how well you take care of it you'll have something go wrong unexpectedly. A blown cap like this is a prime example. You never know when they'll fail and they aren't typically replaced until they do.

What you're doing is the equivalent of accusing somebody of neglecting their car maintenance because they got a nail in their tire and are looking for a tire shop.

That's unfortunate, as the cap itself costs less than 10 dollars and can be installed in under 5 minutes.
