The total lock-down and curfew in Bagdad appears to be a complete failure. How much longer can that country endure this carnage?

Iraq renews emergency powers amid high body count by Paul Schemm
2 hours, 11 minutes ago, Minday, Oct, 2, 2006.

BAGHDAD (AFP) - The Iraqi government has renewed its emergency powers amid mass kidnappings, dozens of corpses on the streets and the assassination of a high ranking officer in the intelligence service.

Colonel Faris Khalil of Iraqi intelligence was driving along in civilian clothes and an unmarked car on a Baghdad highway Monday, when gunmen roared up next to him and shot him dead, said the interior ministry.

The capital's dire security situation was further highlighted by a mass kidnapping carried out by gunmen dressed in military-style fatigues -- the second in as many days.

Of the two dozen people snatched in Sunday's mass kidnapping, 10 of them turned up dead in the southern Baghdad neighborhood of Abu Chir, part of the 50 corpses found by police.

The British and US governments also announced the deaths of three US marines and a British soldier, as violence continued across the country.

For the past six months, Sunni and Shiite death squads have hunted civilians in each other's communities, leaving a grim toll on the streets -- at a rate of 100 dead a day across the country, according to UN and government estimates.

Parliamentarians, meanwhile, have been at loggerheads after revelations a senior Sunni politician's bodyguard had been implicated in a bomb plot against Baghdad's fortified Green Zone, the seat of the government.

In Monday's session, however, parliament speaker Mahmud al-Mashhadani cut off further debate on the subject and forced the fractious deputies to focus on the legislative agenda, including renewing the long-running state of emergency for another month.

But Sunni parliamentarians said the emergency laws needed to be reviewed since they clearly were not improving the situation, alleging that security forces were corrupt.

Even after the measure passed with only 32 deputies out of 275 voting against, Sunni parliamentarian Hussein al-Falluji loudly disputed the action.

"If you don't stop arguing, I will have you ejected," said Mashhadani.

The atmosphere has been tense in parliament after the news of the bomb plot, and several Shiite deputies have called for investigations into Sunni politicians, suggesting they have links with insurgent groups.

The Sunnis riposted that Shiite political parties are sponsoring armed militias responsible for much of the midnight killings across Baghdad.

These shadowy armed groups, many outfitted with government-issue uniforms, carry out assassinations and kidnappings, such as Monday's near the technology university.

Seven government-style pickup trucks pulled up to the Sira computer store in broad daylight and took 14 people, both customers and employees, from the surrounding shops.

The biggest Sunni political party issued a statement accusing militias with official ties of both the computer store kidnapping and Sunday's kidnapping of 26 people from a food processing factory in southwest Baghdad's Amil neighborhood.

"The Iraqi Islamic Party asks how could 26 people, among them women, have been transported from Amil neighborhood to Abu Chir (where their bodies were found) through all those Iraqi and US army checkpoints and patrols?" asked the statement.

"This is the bloody wodeath and torturerk of the terrorist militias that constantly make people experience the color of ," it added.

But while there have been several moves into Sunni insurgent-infested neighborhoods in western and southern Baghdad, coalition forces have been hesitant to enter the teeming Shiite slum of Sadr City.

In other violence on Monday, a bomb in central Baghdad exploded killing one person and wounding four, and three soldiers from the Iraqi army's quick reaction force were killed in an ambush near Kut city, southeast of Baghdad.

A rain of mortars fell on an area just south of the city killing one person in the nighttime mortar duels that often take place between rival neighborhoods. A similar incident killed a person in the north of the city.

In Hilla, also just south of Baghdad, a civilian was killed in a drive-by shooting.

North of the capital, in the oil refining city of Baiji, a railway station worker was killed and two others kidnapped.

A convoy of trucks carrying petrol for the US army was hit by two roadside bombs, killing two drivers and leaving two trucks in flames, according to police in Tikrit. The US military could not confirm the incident.

Two people were killed in a two separate drive-by shootings half an hour apart in the northern oil city in Kirkuk that police say could have been the work of the same group of attackers.

Absolute chaos in Iraq

Can it get any worse?

The violence, at present, is restricted to a minority of the provinces in Iraq AFAIK. So yes, it could get worse.

The violence is restricted to 4 of 18 provinces (about 40% of the geographical area and population), so yes it could get worse.

Recent CIA assessments have concluded that the situation will continue to deteriorate for the next year.

We will need only to count the dead and maimed to assess that. And the environmental destruction. Which most people understably forget in light of so much human carnage.

All is going to escalate and get worse. It's pretty much a done deal, barring any serious threats from Russia and China to start WWIII, that Iran is next. This next mass attack by the West on Islam will stir a localized war into a vast regional war.

Chaos is rapidly expanding in Pakistan as wll. The USA's whore there pResident Mushareff has already survived several assassination tries. Because in terms of the Muslim religion he's an extreme traitor to that system of beliefs. Pakistan has around 200 nukes (that we know of). With the capacity to mass produce more. Thanks largely to a mad scientist they have there who proliferated bomb building technology there and elsewhere all over the Islamic World. (see the film 'Nuclear Jihad'). So only one traitor-whore general holds back Nuclear Jihad in that Country. Comforting to know isn't it?

So yes, buzzing Islamic nukes sailing overhead into Israel and into our 14 permanent USA Military Bases in Iraq is a reason to say things are getting worse. It just takes circumstances to boil out of control. The increasing chaos in the region is not going to be adequitely controlled by Western Imperialism's fear tactics. Extreme Muslim Rage is not effected by fear. Put a red launch button and a keyboard in front of them and the book with the launch codes and guess what happens next?

Irans conventional missile forces are also quite powerful. Capable of accurate attacks on USA Military Bases down to pinpointing volatile or soft targets. We're talking 10,000 dead USA Soldiers and 30,000 maimed in just the opening counter-attack wave of missiles. Our troops would be caught by surprise no doubt. Because of poor USA Military planning and this fact... Iran has thousands of top Russian and Chinese military advisors. These are men of advanced tactical battlefield skills who will actually direct the action of Iran's counter-attacks. A thought that really makes me sad. Because our troops are all made into sitting ducks out there on the flat barren deserts of Iraq. Much of it tent cities housing green recruits who are fresh out of high school. Who should be home having a wonderful life instead.

Of course things can get worse---and things have been getting steadily worse in Iraq since day one---and no question about it---its now very close to civil war---but for a civil war to be effective---one or more sides need the heavy weapons---tanks--artillery---and maybe planes---all of which neighboring countries have---and the idea that some of these contries don't have contingency plans and think they may be able to gain in such a real insuing Iraqi civil war terrifies me---because then everything becomes totally impossible to predict and such a civil war could rapidly engulf the entire mid-east and even result in nukes being used.---and also result in a world wide economic collaspe as mid-east oil becomes unavailable for an extended period of time.

Such is the risk of staying the course with the present plan of GWB.------time is rapidly running out.---and GWB is the new Alfred E. Neuman---with a what me worry motto.

The level of weapon sophistication and explosive power is steadily increasing from what i gather. It started out with AK47s and simple shoulder fired RPGs. And using buried artillery shells as roadside bombs. Now, as evidenced by Israel loosing an entire division of tanks in Lebanon from Hezbollah's advanced tactics and equipment, things are moving to a much high plateau. All across the Islamic areas currently under USA or Israeli occupation or attack.

Directing much of this are Russian and Chinese military advisors who are also providing much of the weapons.

When the USA tac-nukes Iran as many predict is imminently going to happen soon, i'm just guessing that the excuse will be there for Russia and China to sell the next higher level of weapons to the Islamic world. Anything minus nukes probably. Though not the very top technologies. But certainly those that make all the tanks used by the West essentially obsolete. Advanced tripod mounted anti-tanks weapons that two men can carry will destroy any Western tank instantly. Iran already has Squall torpedos and sunburn antiship missiles. And Islamic Nations are loaded with cash to buy all of Russia and China's clearance items. The West's Imperialism will create a weapon seller's bonanza for all the superpowers. Our USA Soldiers though will of course pay the price everytime a "better" weapon is deployed and then used on us by a jihadist.
