Down here in north Texas, most houses in the $250K or above range have a permanent gunite pool (...that's a cement pond for those of you in the South...
) but that's what the market demands. People who are looking to buy a house either want a pool, don't want a pool (these are very often people who have had a pool before... ) or don't know enough to care. I get calls from new homeowners who have just bought a house with a pool and know nothing about it... and after I school them they are surprised/amazed/flabberghasted that there is so much to taking care of a pool... and, very often, the expense.
