PS - Whats the difference between OEM and Retail?

get a 450w fortron psu. the ram looks good for $140 (with the $50 rebate) but it's not guaranteed to overclock. it's not rated at DDR500 so if you want to stick to Corsair XMS ram, i would suggest this one for $193 - $25 rebate. you can always use dividers but if you'll be buying xms ram, might as well buy the right one

Ok thanks, but will my mobo suport that DDR 500 RAM ?

Also, I am looking for a modular PSU under 100 $ ... Fortron dont make modular PSUs... I have read the reviews of Sunbeam Nuuo 550 W and it did very well.

How about this then : Antec 500 W ?

I dont think that X1900XT can handle that.. I used the PSU Calculator and it required me around 500 W (with OC)

Any PSU calculator telling you that can't be trusted.

Read this SPCR article to get an idea of what systems really draw, not what power calculators tell you they do.

Yes, but we don't care about the total wattage half the time. I have a 600W PSU not because I need all 600W, but because you need rails that can handle the speeds you want to run at.

I recommend a 500W PSU for your system. Be sure the 12V rail is sufficient (Esp if it comes as dual rail).

^^ Could you please recommend a particular model ? I didnt have any hard time choosing parts since I usually read a lot of forums and try to get the best for the money. But, when it comes to PSU, I get extremely confused. I posted a link to Antec 500 W PSU ... is it anygood? if not then can you recommend one? I'd sincerely appreciate it.

EDIT: my budget for PSU is under 90 $

I'd go with the Samsung SP2504C instead of the WD. Quietest 3.5" drive, same price. Performance is negligibly slower.

Your system needs about 27A on the +12V rail(s) at full load; the Fortron FSP400-60GLN does 29A.

Generally, OEM stuff comes in an anti-static bag with maybe a cable or two. Retail stuff has a nice box & packaging, cables, manual, drivers, perhaps some games, etc. Retail is whatever you'd expect to see at a Best Buy or Circuit City.

27 Amps is total current from both 12 V rails ? or individual?

From this page : http://www.sunbeamtech.com/PRODUCTS/Power-supply/NUUO/nuuo-550.htm
It says that the total Amps is 30 and peak Amps is 35. So, it should be good... please reply , I wanna order it before 12 Midnight today. THanks !

Also, if I get an OEM harddrive, do I need to buy extra SATA Cables? I saw on the list of cables supplied with my motherboard and it has got 2 SATA cables..wondering if they are the same.

EDIT : Sunbeam Nuuo has been mentioned on this site:
http://www.rose-hulman.edu/~freemawa/featured/psu/trusted.php
I also read a review on xbitlabs.com and it did well on the tests. The peak ratio was a bit less than 1 and the efficiency was around 83 % mid and 80 % peak.

A total of 27A. The FSP provides 15A on +12V1 and 14A on +12V2 IIRC. The Sunbeam should be fine, too.

The motherboard should come with SATA cables (which are universal).

^^ Thanks Howard,

So, do you think that that PSU will be able to handle it? I also changed to Samsung Spinpoint 250 GB 7200 RPM SATA II Hardrive 🙂

Yes. I've no qualms about it, since jonnyGURU seems to rank it fairly well.

Quality is more important then quantity when it comes to watts.

The Sunbeam may be alright but it doesn?t compare to a Seasonic or Forton-Source.

To the OP, your looking at about 200-250 watts DC under load, 350-400 watts is plenty. The 400 watt Forton Howard linked to above would be a much better choice.

did you pick that psu because of wattage? because if the psu isnt reliable and efficent that doesn't mean crap i'd suggest checking out some reviews on them and stress testing one that i can suggest is the seasonic s12 series psu

btw awsome case

ram is i'd probably get this though http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820227210

hd's i'd go seagate or samsung as they tend to be more reliable and quieter

and I am a fan of the benQ dvd-rw drives

other than that it's a nice system

oem is by itself no paper work or extra wires just the product itself and idk about warranty but it might be different.

That's what I was thinking, but jonny has it ranked on par with the FSP power supplies here:

http://www.jonnyguru.com/ratethebrands.html

Channel well is there but Antec is missing. I'm assuming they still make Antec's power supplies?

So far as I know, yes.

get a seagate NCQ drive

get an antec true power 2.0 or seasonic 500w

good memory and mobo, will be very smooth

ditch the 3700 processor and just get a dual core 3800
