Well I hate to do this considering there's been about 10 of this type of thread in the last couple of days, but, here 'goes anyway.

I'm gonna order:

 • p3 700E from OnVia - $215 shipped, after rebates/Pointclick
 • Asus CUSL2 from Atacom - $185 shipped, ETA 7/21
 • The only thing I haven't decided on yet is the Hard Drive. I was looking at a 20-30gig IBM ata/100, what do you think? Where's the best place to get this hard drive?

Thanks for input!

<Edit>OnVia has the IBM 30gig ata/100 RETAIL for about $160 shipped after rebates. This looks like a nice deal...What do you think?</Edit>

But if I'm going to buy a Solano board with onboard ata/100 wouldn't it be stupid to not buy an ata/100 drive?

Oh yeah, forgot. Cooler. Should I buy the Alpha FC-PGA mega HS/fan combo from 2Cool, or the Golden Orb?

I thought that the IBM's were ata100. Even my Maxtor DiamondMax has a firmware update for ata100

Oh you're right, that is an ata/100. But it's a bare drive, whereas the one at OnVia is Retail. For a HD, I think it might be worth the warantee...

I think this is the same drive...

OnVia: <<30GB EIDE Ultra ATA/100 LP Deskstar 7200rpm 75GXP - RETAIL>>

AllStarShop: <<IBM Deskstar 75GXP DTLA-307030 30GB ATA/100 Hard Drive (BARE)>>

It's actually LESS from Onvia, shipped, for the retail drive, then it is from AllStarShop, not including shipping, for a bare drive. I'll go with OnVia. :)

Hard Drives Northwest (http://www.hdnw.com) has a free shipping promotion and is selling the 30gig UDMA/100 for $199.95, I just picked up a 47 gig from them yesterday and they had both in stock at the time. They're a reputable dealer based in Washington State. I notice you can get them for as low as $175ish at pricewatch - but im not familiar with the vendors, or their freight charges.

I'll look there, but I wouldn't EVER buy from Pricewatch.
I have before, and (most) of those vendor's are sleazy and they play the "I'll-give-you-a-stick-of-pc100-for-$.50-a-meg-and-then-charge-you-$34-for-UPS-Ground" game. :(

Thanks. I'll look at the review when it comes out, that is...unless my itch gets too strong and I whip out the plastic tonight. :)

I like the IBMs too, I've had several WDs (which are exactly the same as IBMs) and several IBMs, and they've all been very, very nice. But, the Maxtor Plus40/45 or whatever they're called have treated me quite well too.

Most people who've ordered from Onvia have gotten cB0. They have a 30-day money back guarantee also, so if I don't get one the first time I'll just return it and talk to a CS rep and see if I can choose the warehouse I get it from like a couple people from that thread did. :)
