Hi there. I need a little advice. I have a Athlon 64 3800+ single core socket 939.
And a ASUS A8N-VM motherboard.

I am about to order 2 Gigs 2X1GIG of memory but I dont know for sure what kind of memory I need?

To be honest I wont be overclocking this system at all so what I need is the fastest memory that runs stock with the motherboard and CPU. I think I will order off of newegg.

So is it the PC3200 memory that I want? Or would it be better to get like the PC6400 or is that only for overclocking?

I couldn't remember if these run at PC3200 speeds so I thought I better ask advice here. 🙂

Thanks for any help.

You need DDR1 PC3200. I would just check the FS/FT forums as people are upgrading and need to sell their DDR1. Probably get it for about $75-80/GB for some decent stuff.

You need DDR. DDR PC3200 is the standard speed for an A64. PC6400 is a DDR2 speed and would generally be used on an Intel platform or the new AM2 socket for A64.

One more question. Which one would be fastest. There is so many brands. I think I want a package from newegg one of the 2X1GIG packages. I was thinking about Corsair XMS?

Is there something faster?

Stock of course without overclocking.

If you're just running everything stock, no point wasting money on OCing ram. Look for the Value series for any of the good companies (OCZ, Corsair, Crucial etc) Even the Value ones will allow some overclocking. And again I would suggest you take a look in FS/FT. I've seen a few people selling PC3200, unless you got money to blow ofcourse 😉
