About to o/c a 2500+ XP Barton

It's been a while since I've o/ced a XP. Just one question, whats the most(safe) vcore someone would want to put on the CPU with air cooling? I got a decent cooler(Volcano 12).

Is that a 1.65v Barton? If so, you should be able to go up to 1.80v with no problems. You might be able to go up to 1.85v with a good heatsink and fan, but I'd keep a good eye on your temps at 1.85v.
 
I overclock my old 3000+ Barton to 2.333ghz @ 1.85v using the stock HSF unit, I found that temps only went up by 4 or 5 degrees celcius (they are still under 55C at full load), I have 100% stability with this system.

Yeah but I build, change, o/c, ect hardware so much for myself and other ppl I forget 😀. Also been a few years since I o/ced a XP. Either way I o/ced it before anyone posted here. I figured 1.75 is def a safe zone for it and got 2.2ghz@1.725v stable so far. It is a 1.65 Barton.

I am o/cing this for my sister which has had the system for around 2 years or so at default. So I figured I would squeeze little bit more performance out of it and it still not need monitoring. It's running at or little over 46c under prime95 testing which is good.

I forgot too with my old Northwood. But that was way back before I was on Anandtech. Had to refresh my memory for that.

As others have said (had to actually refresh my memory on this too) 1.75-1.85 seems to be a safe zone for a Barton. You can always use the 10% rule too (as in don't go more than 10% over stock voltage, but sometimes that isn't always the best way).

This brought back some memories of my old Athlon XP-M(obile) @ (I think) 2.5ghz or somewere around there. Those mobile chips really clocked well.
 
Damm, I just picked up a rig that had a busted hard drive but had a Barton 2600 and an35-400 shuttle mb from Craigslist yesterday. It is now running at 2.127 ghz at 1.69 volts which is now my third Barton that I own.
