I'm not sure about Bionic Commando, but if were talking NES, the greatest game ever was River City Ransom! Great 2 player side scrolling fighting action, the ability to buy powerups, beat up high school thugs, rescue the gurl, and kick the $*** out of the other pc too! Oh yeah, you could go back to earlier areas too (and had to at a couple of points).

Edit: I forgot to add Final Fantasy 1 to your list. It absolutly hooked my on the RPG genre. I even started playing it though again recently. I am trying to kick Warmech @$* with the typical powergroup of 2 masters, white wizard, black wizard at level 24 (he won the first round).

That game was so awesome it wasn't funny.
Bionic Commando was cool, but I wouldn't put it up there with Zelda and SMB3. Maybe with SMB2, because that one wasn't so great.

Your statement implies that you rank Super Mario Bros 2 highly... more highly than SMB3 even? :Q

It hooked a lot of us.

Final Fantasy was developed during Square's brush with bankruptcy in 1987. In a display of gallows humor, producer / director Hironobu Sakaguchi declared that his "final" game would be a "fantasy" role-playing game, hence the title.

i'd say that was a no brainer. SMB2 was much more fantasy oriented than 1 or 3 and just a much much cooler game than 1 or 3.

SMB2 is in my top 5.

oh damn I never knew the name of that game was River City Ransom...growing up all the NES games I played were in Japanese, so I didn't know what half of them were called. My favorite of that style of characters (same developers I'm assuming) is Super Dodge Ball. There was also this field and track game with the same style of characters...but I dunno its name :(

sick as in good.

Last time I checked, it wasn't good to be sick. I like being healthy.

Mario 3 > Mario 1 > Mario 2

That's not saying Mario 2 was a bad game. Quite to the contrary.

I quite enjoyed Mario 3 as well.

My favourite game for the NES was "Blades of Steel"!
