Yeah, I heard about this type of place as well. Supposedly the food is suppose to be better, but it's like $1 more.

Yes, gaijin means foreigner in Japanese (i'm semi-fluent). Gwai lo was one of two words that I thought I knew. The other word is fong pee.

But let's not turn this into a language thread. Has the guy come back from lunch yet? Or was he the guy I heard in the toilet a couple hours ago. . .?

Story time:

Long ago there was an emperor who wanted to see how the people lived, do as they do, eat as they eat, etc. etc. Now, he couldn't do dressed up as an emperor because people would still see him as an emperor and not treat him as a normal person. So, he dressed up as one of his servants and had one of his servants stand in as emperor. They went to a restaurant to eat as the people ate. The emperor looked over to another table and saw the other patrons pouring tea for other members of their table. So the emperor (dressed as the servant) took his teapot and poured for the "emperor." Now the servant didn't know what to do because here is his lord and emperor pouring tea for him but he couldn't just get down and bow in humility and gratefulness else he would blow his cover. So, in a subdued gesture of gratitude, he tapped his fingers on the table when the tea was poured.

(Now whether this is true or not, i don't know, just thought it was a cool explanation given to me awhile back)
