Be aware of their irresistable cuteness... like dust bunnies they collect.

Proud owner of 2 pugs - one fawn, one black

I'd love a pug, fawn colored and I've already thought of a name. Oscar.

My mom has two, and they're awesome. Not sure if you saw my post about our family friend that forgot to go over and house sit, but they recovered. Actually, the fawn female is practically blind, and the black male is pretty much deaf at this point - not because of being left alone for a week, but just some issues. Be ready for the snoring, and the breathing issues - you might have to drop a grand or more on surgery to have the passage-ways opened up. But they're adorable dogs, and a lot of fun!

You've never had a dog before? Who are you getting the dog from? Puppy or adult?

Buy Dogs for Dummies as a start. I'm hoping you're buying from a reputable breeder who will help you and provide guidance.

Get youself LOTS of pee pads, plenty of cleaning supplies, and prepare to repurchase many cherished items..... also you needa lot of patience.

After that its all easy :)

But seriously, go buy a book - there are many schools of thought on raising animals, none are right or wrong (for the most part). Most people simply find a strategy that fits their lifestyle and roll with it. If you have the time it may be worth looking into some sort of training or obedience classes. You need to find a good vet and a good kennel ASAP.

Prepare for your food to be raided on an hourly basis.

EDIT: Oh, and will you get to pick from a litter? Just because one puppy is more energetic than the rest doesn't mean that he'll be the nicest.

Another good book - Good Owners, Great Dogs

If you have the opportunity to pick the puppy, I would pick a middle of pack dog in regards to energy/outgoingness. You don't want the most hyper nor do you want the most shy.

I also recommend buying a crate. Crate training is a great way to house break your dog and save your house from getting destroyed.
