about to flash BIOS

INSTRUCTIONS: Mainboard BIOS updates can be accomplished through the following. (In all cases, please make sure Flash Write Protect is DISABLED before flashing the BIOS update.)

How do i know if my Flash Write Protect is DISABLED ?

That is most often a jumper on your Mobo or a switch in the exisiting BIOS. Before flashing your BIOS, you should have a good reason to do so - like, - what isn't working for you now that will be fixed afterwards? BIOS flashes are not a general panacea in most cases.

this is whats going on: Was a suggested possible solution

Been getting random applications crashing with windows error reports in this particular case it?s my PowerDVD in which if freezes stating ?PowerDVD has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience? Send error report / don't send report?. This happened with Word, Explore, ATI HDTV just about any application. Aside from this computer is running fine. All I have to do is start the program up again and I am good to go. Just ran Memtest86 all night on my 1GB duel channel sticks in which I had 20 passes no errors over a 8 hour period. Might be important to note that I have done no OCing and my CPU temp runs under 109 F. ideas on what could be causing these.

I strongly suspect that updating your BIOS will not fix your problem.

Your problem sounds like its own windows related. Have you checked your system for viruses, spyware and Trojans?

runing AntiVir ad-aware SE and spybot search and destroy. Hopefully its simply a windows issue and just needs a fresh reinstall

First I would uninstall PowerDVD. Then see if you have any continued problems. If not, then reinstall Power DVD and make sure you have the latest update on it. I agree with Bacillus - I don't see your BIOS as the problem.

Power DVD likes to have a startup thingy running - and that may be the problem. Open MSCONFIG, START UP tab, and uncheck anything related to PowerDVD. That may solve the problem. All that startup utility does is create an automatic association link so that any DVD movie inserted in the drive will automaticlly start Power DVD.

Being a control freak, I hate anything "automatic" w/o my command. I uncheck lots of those things - as a result, I never see freezes, crashes, or BSODs - not even with Power DVD. 🙂
