In truth, the ceiling was a compromise of sorts. It was by far the easiest option (other than simply replacing the tiles with 2x4 tiles and lights fixtures. If I had an unlimited budget, I would have drywalled the ceiling, but that is expensive, labor intensive, and closes off access. I am pretty happy though with this ceiling, but I hear you and agree with you to some extent although I know that this was really the best solution for me given my constraints.

why yes it was! that took all of 5 minutes, whereas if I had put in something less configurable it would have taken at least 180 minutes

I just did laminate in my entire basement (except for the laundry room and bathroom) - so it was around 500 square feet.

The only recommendation I have is to at least glue the short side of the boards. The tongue and groove is probably strong enough to hold the long sides together, but my short sides have already started to separate a little.

I thought I had some 12 gauge around that I could give you, but I forgot about my plans to give that to my parents for their new system 🙁

that reminds me that i have some old wire left over from when I rewired the lights. It might be 10 gauge, but i don't thihk that would be a problem.
