BenQ DW1620 Pro = best burner out there.

Your typing spelling, & linking is rather fux0red, but yeah, if you were asking about another drive, nope.
Get the DW 1620 Pro :)

Anandtech is full of NEC fanbois, but other sites out there tend to prefer the BenQ.

The new NEC is too new to say anthing definite. The Pioneer i honestly haven't heard much on.

Everything i said was IMO, so really, i guess i should rephrase this:

IMO, the BenQ DW1620 Pro is likely the best DVD-/+RW out there.
Each to their own though ;)

I'm not saying the nec is better. Its just since I was last informed, they were all damn good and better hten the rest. I was just curious if lately nec had dropped the ball and benq had become the undisputed. But, it seems its all up to every person to make their decisino between them.

Honestly, it's all opinion.

A couple things i've noticed:
with CD-RWs, brand was extremely important to get good a good burner (think Plextor)
with CD-R/RW discs, brand isn't terribly important for good burns.

with DVDRWs, brand really isn't all that important to get a good drive (there's alot of great ones out there)
with DVDR/RW discs, brand is very important to get a good burn.

Just some weird observations anyway.

BenQ = Acer... I never trusted them. I'd stick with NEC or Plextor.

*sigh*

If there's one thing i've learned, it's not to judge based on brand, except in certain cases.

When BenQ first started getting into peripherals, i was wary...i figured they were crap.
When one actually researchs something though in an unbiased manner, you'll find that which you assumed to be no good to be excellent in some cases.

IOW, don't judge the book by its cover.

BTW, from their site:

Q. What is the relationship between BenQ and Acer?
A: Acer is one of BenQ's shareholders. Currently, Acer holds about 9.5% of BenQ's total outstanding shares. Acer intends to lower its shareholding in BenQ from 9.5% to 5% in the near future.

AFAIK, Acer has absolutely nothing to do with BenQ manufacturing of products.

You are correct that AT is filled with fanboys. It was a VERY difficult decision not to order an NEC DVD Burner but reading all the Pioneer DVR-109 praise was too much for me to handle, so I ordered one.

If it doesn't work out, I'll just buy a tried and proven NEC ND-3520 or 3540.
